Michigans Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order Friday that goes into effect Monday mandating face masks in public indoor and crowded outdoor spaces. It introduces a misdemeanor charge with a $500 fine for violators who refuse.
The heroes on the front lines of this crisis have gone hours without taking their masks off every day, doctors, nurses, child care workers, grocery store workers. We owe it to them to wear our masks when were on a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy, Whitmer said in a press release. For the sake of your loved ones, lets all mask up.
Whitmers office cited a German study finding that government mask mandates reduced transmission of the Chinese virus by 40 percent.
Michigans fight against COVID-19 is nowhere near over, which is why its so important that we all do our part and wear masks when were out in public, Chief Medical Executive and Department of Health and Human Services Chief Deputy for Health Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said in the press release. Wearing a mask or face covering can significantly decrease the chance of spreading COVID-19 and save lives. Its important that all Michiganders wear masks properly not down around the neck, not only over the mouth, but correctly over the mouth and nose.
Under Whitmers new order, businesses must refuse service to those not properly wearing a mask or be subject to harsh penalties, including license revocation. The few exceptions include children under 5 years old and those with medical conditions that prohibit face coverings. It also excepts people eating or drinking at restaurants.
The Michigan Retailers Association criticized the order, however, as impossible to enforce based on vague exemptions.
Determining the validity of an ambiguous exemption is an impossible task for a retailer, the group said Friday. And now, even retailers acting in good faith could be subject to severe licensing sanctions based on the actions of non-compliant customers.
At the height of the lockdowns several months ago, Whitmer became a heroic dictatorial figure on the left for imposing the strictest stay-home orders in the country that barred residential travel in addition to sales of paint and gardening seeds, the latter of which are used in a socially distant manner.
The progressive midwestern governors orders prompted several lawsuits and even calls for removal.
Whitmer is now also reportedly on the vice presidential short-list to run with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden this fall.
4 slices with a utility knife helps with breathing at least.
Adolf Andy Bershear did the same thing on Friday July 10th, he is a douch and proud of it.
There must be a footnote that rioters and looters are exempt.
DiBlasio shows how it is done:

Massive civil disobedience is the only answer to these insane masking orders.
The intention of these DEMOCRATIC governors is to keep herd immunity from kicking in until after the election.
Do not help them out.
Refuse to wear a mask.
If you arent feeling well, stay home.
If it’s really an emergency, why does she sign the order on Friday but it doesn’t take effect until Monday? What magic protects people for 3 days?
More boot-heel-on-neck extremism from a totalitarian Democrat.
Originally, Executive Orders (even at the Federal Level) applied only to the Executive Department. The Governor (Or President) is not a queen or king who can arbitrarily make law superseding real law merely be “deeming” some situation to be an emergency.
You wear a mask!!!!! If some people are afraid of the so called most deadly virus that you have to take a test to even know you have it, wear a mask, stay home. But please, leave me alone. I refuse to wear your Jewish gold star.
So, whatever happened to we just need to flatten the curve so as to not overwhelm our hospitals eat al? Im Im Michigan (Detroit area) and our hospitals are not overwhelmed. The opposite in most cases. Deaths are down and as far as I can tell, COVID hospitalization is not unmanageable.
Besides a lawsuit stuck in the appeals court until August, the Republicans have done what theyre really good at in Michigan, nothing. Also, maybe some legal experts can tell me why/how something this important sits in appeals for 3-4 months.
Exactly why mask mandates and forced business closures are unlawful.
It's the leftist dream to control everything, including all the citizenry and what they do. They dream to have a centrally-controlled all-encompassing government.
An EO is meant to internally facilitate government's operations. But, if government is everything, there is no difference between internal and external - it's all internal, as external now becomes internal.
With that, there is the leftist justification for an EO for anything that a legislature could possibly do.
She's not up for reelection until 2022...
I don't think it's going to happen. They need 1,062,647 VALID signatures within the 60 day period.
I made ours, with the heat, reworked them to a single layer for trips to pharmacy or doctors, where you can’t get out of wearing them.

So I can wear a catcher’s mask and not be out of compliance. Got it.
