New York Police Department officers are retiring at a staggering rate amid a crime surge in the city and growing tensions with Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the Hill reported Thursday.
In the last week, 179 NYPD officers have filed for retirement, which marks a 411% increase from 2019’s 35, according to the Hill.
The retirements follow violent riots that roiled the city, De Blasio’s decision to slash the NYPD budget and the decision to disband the anti-crime unit. Soon after the unit’s 600 plainclothes officers were reassigned to new roles, shootings in the city surged by more than 358% in mid-June.

Well of course. And if you have enough years to retire, I’m guessing (unless you’ve been ‘acquiring stuff’ over the years) you don’t just resign. Loss of pension would hurt if it’s like most public service pensions.

More than 10,000 apartments were listed for rent in Manhattan in June, an increase of 85% over last year, according to a report from Miller Samuel and Douglas Elliman.
The official vacancy rate hit a record 3.67% but is far higher in many New York City buildings, according to brokers.
In an effort to fill all those vacant apartments, landlords are dropping prices and offering ever-larger incentives.

I think it would be worse than just that. Suppose you get tired of waiting for the retirement paperwork to go through. So you just quit. You won’t get a pension. And you won’t have any post-retirement health insurance. It’s the no health insurance part that could really destroy you.

There will be ways to avoid doing the job while collecting the pay. Sick leave, gold-brickkng, just patrolling safe area, ignoring radio calls, etc.
Why not use their own crap against them? “I might be trans-gender and I need to have some paid time off to do some introspective feeling time.”
Forced work is called slavery. Leave it to Democrats to reinstate slavery.
