MINNEAPOLIS — For weeks now many white people have been asking, as a white person, what do I do?
How can I be an ally in the fight for racial equity in our community, in our state, in our country AND DO SO RESPECTFUL of the space that has already been created by people of color?
How do I help - and also - not overstep?
Sarah Bellamy, of Penumbra Theatre, one of three African American stages in the whole country that performs a full season, has been in the work of racial equity her entire life. She was kind enough to have this talk with Jana Shortal.
“I think the impulse to want to do something - that is a really good thing. I think a lot of people are waking up to some of the incredible disparities that exist in Minnesota,” Bellamy said.
She also added, go further though.
A Black Lives Matter sign in your yard, or at your business alongside a few Facebook posts and tweets supporting the movement, that's not going further.
That, Bellamy says, is bare minimum kind of stuff. "It’s not enough to say 'I agree to that it was wrong what happened.' What are you going to do about it? I think it's important for white people to understand that there is a powerful role they can play in this moment. This is not the moment to sit back and say let me let someone else do the work, it is to lean in and say I may not know how but I want to get involved,” Bellamy said.
That leaning in she says - is taking more weight of the work of racial equity off the backs of people of color - and doing it on our own.

That image of “leaning in” reminds me of the old political cartoon depicting the plight of the middle class where America’s middle class is shown pushing the wagon with ever more people piling onto the wagon.
I am going to do what I always do. They can take their racist crap and shove it.
What can you do? Well, for starters Democrats/Leftists can denounce their blatant racism instead of embracing it.
I will not have conversations about race. At all. Anyone who tries, I just keep asking them why they are racist? I look at the content of the character, why do they look at the color of the skin? I don’t give an inch, admit fault, or agree with anything they say.
Here’s my answer: I can do nothing. I’m not a racist

As I don’t want to be no “White savior”; I think I’ll leave blacks alone to solve their own black problems.

Absolutely nothing: I’d be condemned by the Left’s false race narrative even though I could walk on water.

Absolutely nothing that they want. Actually, I’m happy when Leftists are offended ... when despicable people think you’re bad it just shows you must be doing something right.
People who’ve got time to feel oppressed by place names and statues are not oppressed at all.

I, My parents and community reinforced the Catholicic teaching on prejudice and racism as did the US Constitution.
They can continue this temper tantrum or communist attack whatever it is. I’ve been accused of racism ever since I started working in the hospital industry by some there and by my Childhood friends fresh in from liberal hate America colleges.
Nothing new. A lot of lies.
