President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Saturday at the White House, where he announced the first round of historical figures to be included in the National Garden of American Heroes.

Trump’s remarks were made during his Salute to America celebration, which was created to pay respect to American military heroes and celebrate Independence Day. Trump said:

To celebrate America’s majestic inheritance, yesterday I signed an executive order to create a brand new monument to our most beloved icons. The National Garden of American Heroes will be a vast, outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans who have ever lived.

We will honor extraordinary citizens from every community, from every place, and from every part of our nation. Great men and great women. People that we can look up to forever. Families will be able to walk among the statues of titans.

President Trump announced the names of the “icons” who would receive statues first on Saturday, including: John Adams, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Daniel Boone, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Henry Clay, Davy Crockett, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Benjamin Franklin, Billy Graham, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Douglas MacArthur, Dolley Madison, James Madison, Christa McAuliffe, Audie Murphy, George S. Patton, Jr., Ronald Reagan, Jackie Robinson, Betsy Ross, Antonin Scalia, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, George Washington, and Orville and Wilbur Wright.

An executive order from President Trump, which implemented the plans to establish the National Garden of American Heroes on Friday, said that none of the figures featured in the Garden “will have lived perfect lives, but all will be worth honoring, remembering, and studying.”

a few of these names makes me realize just about every single person can be considered a hero in some way or part of their life, so why not just create a idol/statue to us all?

I don’t agree with this national statue garden. the moneies could be better spent other ways.

I would love to see William Faulkner added to this list. And I can’t think of any person in my lifetime who personified the indomitable American spirit better than the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Green Onions, man :-)

This was a brilliant idea and totally Trumpian. They break 10 statues, we put up 100 new ones in their place.

Amelia Earhart? A young woman who liked to fly airplanes and did not bother to flight test the planes before jumping in and away she went. I am just not certain that she did anything important other than disappearing. However, I may be ignorant of the complete story.

"Eden"? The announcement was made in the place named Keystone, famous for its four heads, as is:

Genesis 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

Come to think of it, the oil pipeline goes by the same name, and consists of four phases.

I'm merely observing what's out there, FWIW. It's too weird, meaning that at some point people are going to catch on that no humans are in charge of (or have ever been in charge of) the narrative, try as they might.

It's a good thing. :)

I think Mathias Baldwin should be included. greatest industrialist in the united states from 1825 till 1930’s. The original works encompassed 8 blocks located where the inquirer building is today. Railroad tracks are still there. from WIKI
The Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW) was an American manufacturer of railroad locomotives from 1825 to 1956. Originally located in Philadelphia, it moved to nearby Eddystone, Pennsylvania, in the early 20th century. The company was for decades the world’s largest producer of steam locomotives, but struggled to compete as demand switched to diesel locomotives. Baldwin produced the last of its 70,000-plus locomotives in 1956 and went out of business in 1972.

I’ve always lived north of the Mason-Dixon and my ancestors fought against these men but I would definitely include:

Lowell Armistad
Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson
Robert E. Lee

Lol
If anyone bothered to attend the show, you might have been pleasantly surprised as I was. The color meant nothing, it was very enjoyable to me.

Everyone had their own opinion and that’s mine

I reacted the same way. I didn’t see how her name fit in with all the others. However, I may be ignorant of the complete story.

Stephen Davison Bechtel (Hoover Dam), Robert Goddard (rocket pioneer), William Myron Keck (Superior Oil) would be some of the now lesser known names to add to the garden, as well as Neil Armstrong, Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, & Nicola Tesla as some of the more well known household names that likely are more deserving than some on that list.
