On June 3 the company posted a video that’s now its Twitter background, remembering seven people: Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling, Botham Jean, Atatiana Jefferson, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd.

“He was one of us. She was one of us. They were all one of us. We see them in our customers. We see them in our crew members. We see them in our franchisees. And this is why the entire McDonald’s family grieves," the company wrote. "It’s why we stand for them and any other victims of systemic oppression and violence. Today we stand with Black communities across America. Which is why we’re donating to the National Urban League and the NAACP. We do not tolerate inequity, injustice, or racism. Black lives matter.”

Also, lumping in two of those individuals (Atatiana Jefferson and Botham Jean) with the remainder is an outrage. Those two were not in the middle of committing a crime as the other five were.

Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall of the McD marketing meeting. I have no doubt that at some point, somebody said “but we have to do this... “ for whatever reason. But sure there was at least one voice off in the corner that said “But but but.. some of these people were total thugs. This has the potential to backfire in a major way... “ Well, I see that Rayshard was not one of the seven names.

Of course, facts don’t matter.

The fact that George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the shooting of Trayvon is ignored. The fact that the local police and DA had closed the case was ignored. The fact is that the only reason there was even a trial was because the governor of Florida appointed a special prosecutor to bring charges in the case.

The fact that there was not even an indictment of the policeman in the Michael Brown case, even after an investigation by Obama’s Justice Department, is also just ignored.
