A statue of Christopher Columbus was taken down in Columbus, Ohio, Wednesday morning amid renewed criticism over the legacy of the explorer.
Crews arrived around 3 a.m. with a crane to remove the bronze statue from its perch outside Columbus City Hall, news station WBNS reported.
The statue, which will be placed for safekeeping in a city facility, had been a gift from the people of Genoa, Italy, in 1955.
But Columbus’ namesake city has experienced renewed calls to re-evaluate symbols associated with him — as critics characterize him as a symbol of white supremacy responsible for the destruction of indigenous cultures.
Mayor Andrew Ginther announced last month that the statue would be coming down, saying it doesn’t represent the city’s values, news station WSYX reported.
“For many people in our community, the statue represents patriarchy, oppression and divisiveness,” Ginther said. “That does not represent our great city, and we will no longer live in the shadow of our ugly past.”
He asked the Columbus Art Commission to evaluate the diversity and inclusiveness of all public art, including other monuments, statues and art installations.
Several statues of Columbus across the country have been vandalized or torn down in recent weeks — including one toppled by protesters in Richmond, Virginia, and another that was beheaded in Camden, New Jersey.

So, the mayor did the work of the mob so they wouldn’t have to exert themselves.
I'm not OK with thug rule which is what we're had for the last month. The thugs who took the law into their own hands - will do it again. Next time they might burn down our homes or murder our children.
Antifa is a domestic terrorists group... They have zero respect for our laws or for us.
20,000 people of Genoa, Italy donated what they could to build the statue in the 1950’s as a thank you for the Marshall Plan saving them from starvation after World War II. Until this year, that statue was a symbol of American friendship with Italy.
They need a statue of an EBT card.

What kind of horseshit city and voters is it Ginther?
Wakanda, Ohio...
Cool.
Wait'll they see OUR mob making sure that the November 3 re-election of President Trump comes off without a hitch, no matter how many fake votes the Lefties manufacture.
.
I don’t think a monument to “The Soviet Gulag and Other Millions Murdered By Communism” will replace it —
Leftists have to destroy history because THY have the Most Heinous Things to HIDE.

Name of city will be changed to: I Can’t Breath, Ohio.
Most Italian-Americans in the U.S. are 3rd-4th generation. It would be difficult to say how they align with political parties. My guess would be that the majority of today's Italian-Americans vote democrat because they follow the party of their New Deal democrat immigrant great-grandparents.
It amazes me how so many people with Roman Catholic European roots vote democrat. I.e., how does any Roman Catholic justify voting for a pro-baby-killing, pro-perversion party? There is a great disconnect in how these people choose to vote contrary to the convictions and teaching of their Roman Catholic faith.
Saw something one of those slugs said yesterday, kinda like: “Even Americans are saying Death to America!!!” We are the laughing stock of the world.
Themselves and the PC flavor of the day.
That will cost them. Lots of stuff to change on municipal equipment, letterhead etc.
