No your county confirmed case to deaths is not 3% as there is no plausible denominator that states every test is positive catches every disease. Multiple the confirmed cases by at least a factor of ten according to the CDC and then recalculate. Your highest death rate is approximately 0.3% on the worst day according to the CDC

I’d like to see some statistical wizard (calling John Lott) estimate how many would have died if infected people had not been sent to nursing homes.
The 2017/18 flu season was especially bad, leading to 80,000 deaths. COVID-19 numbers are approaching 120,000 deaths. Take away those deaths due to the policy of some states to send infections people to nursing homes.
As I understand it, CDC guidelines are that if the coronavirus is present at time of death, the death is to be categorized as a coronavirus death. The autopsy of George Floyd showed he had the coronavirus. So, per CDC guidelines, his was a coronavirus death. The CDC guideline further inflates the number of people who have died from the Coronavirus. By how much?
Between the nursing home fiasco and the faulty CDC guidelines, I would guess (guess!!) that real coronavirus fatalities are more like 100,000, which is worse than that of the worst modern day American flu season.
What would the death rate have been if we had had timely use of HCQ? I’ll hazard another guess, 60,000.
And where will deaths go from here? I can only hope that the current trend of reduced deaths continues.
This current wave is Mexican. Its hitting Mexican communities near the boarder. And its hitting the high South American communities in Miami. This is a group that has never really shut down. They have all the big issues. They smoke more, they have bad untreated health issues. They have multi-generational families living together. They have friends that have moved across the boarder into countries which are experiencing the virus now. Each group seems to have its turn. Anyone with a Mexican worker even at a bar or restaurant or a healthcare worker is likely going to be exposed soon.
Remember no doctor or expert is promising to beat this thing. There is no beating it. This virus is here to stay. We have not beaten German Measles or even Polio. And there is no Corona vaccine even though we have several known corona virus’. The best we can do, is to learn how to treat it better. And we need to let it get to people while they are young and healthy. Its killing the old people and the sick because they have never had it before.

I would think the case fatality rate would be measured across people who are confirmed to have had the virus (whatever that virus is.)
Keep in mind that the normal flu CFR is base almost entirely on “estimates.” They estimate the deaths way, way after the fact. They estimate the infection rates. All of it is as clear as mud.
Also, I should remind you that people counting cases and deaths in this whole mess are merely counting raindrops—they are missing the entire picture: Economic, lost jobs, destroyed hospitals, and the complete dismissal of other pretty serious medical conditions.
I recall writing way back in February that this was the first pandemic/epidemic in a social media world. It was going to be made much more dramatic than it is.
Sure if you are a fat, elderly, diabetic you should take this whole thing very seriously. If you are 30 and in decent shape...you should take basic precautions, but you won’t probably get ill and you almost certainly (99+%) won’t die.

That report came out a week or two ago. It stated that year over year deaths were virtually the same if you eliminated the deaths in NY, NJ nursing homes.

Only people with full blow cases who were sick enough to see a doctor ever got counted in the denominator.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HUMAN HISTORY we are counting people who were never, ever actually sick with a given disease in the denominator to calculate that disease's fatality rate.
There can be no meaningful comparison to any historical pandemic from this point on.

If you look at the numbers of recovered and the numbers who have died the overall fatality rate for people who were actually sick is 7.4%.
I'm using a modified Lancet formula, taking into account that it takes 3 weeks longer to recover than to die.
As of 11:33 this morning, JHU CSSE reported 495,781 deaths, and 4,983,029 recoveries. I use the deaths 3 weeks ago, 399,642, and get (399642/(399642+4983029))*100=7.4%

Not true. Our country counted everyone who died from any cause that also had COVID/flu antibodies as COVID deaths. This is quite well documented.

Neither of those understandings are correct. George Floyd is most certainly not categorized as a COVID-19 death per CDC guidelines. Here are those guidelines so you can see for yourself: CDC Guidance for Certifying Deaths Due to COVID-19

Well, if we're just going to go off of guesses, I guess it's 195,946. And if we average out all our guesses, we come up with 127,973. Seems reasonable.

Here's something we can all agree on. And thankfully, that's what the models tell us is going to continue happening, at least into September. But good luck getting the media to report on that.
