Hundreds of troops with the Washington, D.C., National Guard have mobilized to protect monuments in the nation's capital, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News on Wednesday.
Interior Secretary David Bernhardt requested the action earlier this week, as protesters target statues and other historical markers during ongoing demonstrations in the wake of George Floyd's police custody death in Minneapolis at the end of May.
TRUMP ISSUES WARNING AMID VANDALISM, EFFORT TO TOPPLE ANDREW JACKSON STATUE
Protesters on Monday attempted to tear down a statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square by the White House, and defaced it with the phrase "killer scum," Reuters reported. Berhardt said afterward that he visited Lafayette Square and witnessed the destruction. He said the country will not bow to anarchists," and that "law and order will prevail, and justice will be served.
The Lincoln Memorial and WWII Memorial were also defaced in earlier protests.
During a protest on Tuesday that took place in front of D.C. Emancipation Memorial, one demonstrator announced that on Thursday they would tear down the memorial's statue of Abraham Lincoln standing over a freed slave.
President Trump warned Tuesday morning that anyone caught vandalizing monuments or any other federal property would be subject to arrest and face up to 10 years in prison under federal law.
D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, meanwhile, announced a more formal measure against the Emancipation Memorial, stating that she will introduce a bill calling for the statue to be removed from its home in Lincoln Park and placed in a museum.

Will we have a Kent State University 2.0 in our hands?
I did notice that Kent State 1.0 happened under Richard Nixon ( 1970 ). He went on to win in a landslide in 1972.
This protest re the Emancipation Monument sounds like a “head-fake” affair. No good communist/anarchist group would give out all their plans/details for a major protect. They use “instant, but pre-planned surge” tactics.
I want to suggest that this “protest” is actually a DECOY announcement. Some will show up but the usual tactics is for smaller, destructive groups to “hit” other, unsuspected targets.
Off hand those targets could be:
*Vietnam Memorial Wall” -long, exposed and not very well guarded
* Vietnam Soldiers Statue” nearby. Stands alone in the trees further north of the Wall. An easy target to vandalize and destroy. I would deploy armed National Guard troops there but I understand that the NG will not be armed (in other words, standing baby-sitters with no diapers).
* The Albert Einstein fantastic statue on Pennsylvania Street down around 22nd.
Why not? Since the BLM, Antifa, communists and anarchist groups are covert and open anti-semites, this would be the perfect target to hit.
After all, Einstein was Jewish, white, European and the developer of the atomic bomb on the American side.
A great white imperialist who made it possible to defeat antifa’s likeable fascist prototype of WW2. He helped to kill tens of thousands of “yellow people”.
Disregard that fact that the Atomic bombs saved millions of lives and wounds. My father in law was preparing for the invasion of the Japanese mainland after recovering from wounds (3 PHs) sustained on Iwo Jima, and my father was on standby orders for Australia where our chemical warfare (service) ammo was being stockpiled in case the Japanese used theirs’ which they had (cyanide handgrenades, for one).
There are other statues in and around DC that would be “easy pickin’s” if all the NG and police were to go to only the announced target.
Remember, these people are psychopaths but their leaders and strategists are seasons communists and anarchists, possibly trained by overseas similar organizations.
Let’s hope that I am wrong, but given the psychotic nature of BLM, Antifa, etc., you should never assume that they won’t do just the opposite of what they publicly proclaim.
I’d like to see their permit for their rally. Bet there’s not one. We need to go out for a demonstration one day and skip the permitting and approval process. Screw work, take what you need/want.
Is the statue of Marion Berry still standing in Washington DC, or are these the same historically challenged (and mentally challenged) vandals who pulled down Ulysses Grant and mistook Berry for a pipe smoking confederate general and carted him off to the river?
Whatya got against Wyoming?
Yeah, Wyoming isn’t the place to dump them. It’s too majestic. Send ‘em to NYC. Contain them all there and let deblasio lead them.
Um...have you been reading the news at all?
The cops get overwhelmed and even chased away or the mayor/governor or whomever tells them to move away.
Hence..Trump called up the national guard.
Now it won’t be a problem.
See how well that works out? :)
I want to see the vandals rounded up and arrested on the charges of vandalism and riot. Make the arrests and charge each one. Hold each until they post bond for the vandalism.
It is not “protest”. It is destruction of federal property.
Why wyoming? Why not say New York?
I wanted cheap Federal Bureau of Land Management land for a prison camp and hard labor
Nevada would do also as would Alaska.
Shouldnt DC get swamped with 10,000 coronavirus cases any minute just from crowds?
You are wrong. This crap, in all its incarnations, will stop the day Biden is elected. It is a highly organized, pre-meditated, well-financed political activity to elect progressive government. There is nothing spontaneous about BLM movement. This is what Community-Organizer-in-Chief talked of organizing, with great success.
These are Marxists... they push the police around, push mayors around and they’ll push Nancy, Biden and Schumer around. If Biden’s elected I give us (conservatives) a 30% chance of being rounded up and sent to death camps.
YOU are wrong.
