Hundreds of troops with the Washington, D.C., National Guard have mobilized to protect monuments in the nation's capital, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News on Wednesday.
Interior Secretary David Bernhardt requested the action earlier this week, as protesters target statues and other historical markers during ongoing demonstrations in the wake of George Floyd's police custody death in Minneapolis at the end of May.

Protesters on Monday attempted to tear down a statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square by the White House, and defaced it with the phrase "killer scum," Reuters reported. Berhardt said afterward that he visited Lafayette Square and witnessed the destruction. He said the country “will not bow to anarchists," and that "law and order will prevail, and justice will be served.”
The Lincoln Memorial and WWII Memorial were also defaced in earlier protests.
During a protest on Tuesday that took place in front of D.C. Emancipation Memorial, one demonstrator announced that on Thursday they would tear down the memorial's statue of Abraham Lincoln standing over a freed slave.
President Trump warned Tuesday morning that anyone caught vandalizing monuments or any other federal property would be subject to arrest and face up to 10 years in prison under federal law.
D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, meanwhile, announced a more formal measure against the Emancipation Memorial, stating that she will introduce a bill calling for the statue to be removed from its home in Lincoln Park and placed in a museum.

Why is this a problem? I’m sure it is illegal to vandalize those monuments. Just arrest them.
Funny - given all the reporting and “getting people the truth” you’d think we’d have lots of camera crews showing the destruction of DC.
But... we’re not and this live seems like an overreaction.
We need more citizen reporting out there with cellphones - and maybe this is why BLM is attacking anybody doing videoing.
There has to be thousands of cameras in DC so why not arrest these turds . Year in prison and 10,000 dollar fine for the first offense

By protecting the monuments, which I'm fine with, he's tying himself and the Republican Party to racism in the minds of uneducated and undereducated people (thank you government run schools).
He should be defending them on the grounds that they serve as lessons as to what kind of rotten people demonicRATS were. And are.
Promote law and order, yes. But take the opportunity to educate.
He did some of that at his rally in Tulsa but he let demonicRATS off easy.

Vandalizing statues goes hand in hand with setting up an autonomous zone. And Trump has already made it clear that won’t happen:
“There will never be an ‘Autonomous Zone’ in Washington, D.C., as long as I’m your President,” Trump tweeted. “If they try they will be met with serious force!”
FDR betrayed the nation, his oath of office and kicked the Constitution to the curb.
Having an open air latrine dedicated to his name is better than he deserves.
It’s not a matter of IDing the criminals - the press is intentionally not showing the devastation and violence which would turn opinion against BLM and expose them for the thugs they are.
BTW - note CHAZ is still up and running even though the mayor said she would shut it down. More lies and kabuki theater to change the narrative.
