The headstones of two music hall singers at a cemetery in the UK have been covered up with wooden pallets and trash bags to hide offensive language.
The gravestones of G H Elliott and Alice Banford, who both wore blackface, are now covered at St Margarets Church in Rottingdean, reports BBC News.
The Archdeacon for Brighton said efforts were underway to contact family members in order to have the inscriptions changed.
I find the inscription on these two headstones deeply offensive and am sure that the vast majority of people would agree and would want it changed, said Archdeacon Martin Lloyd Williams.
Over the last few months, investigations have been underway as to the legal and other considerations around seeking a solution, not least seeking to identify and contact the next of kin who own the headstones, he added.
A BBC report on the the story was too petrified to even name the word that was so offensive.
The term in question is the word coon, which is engraved on G.H.Elliotts gravestone. His stage name was The Coloured Coon.

Offensive?
Like this offensive?
... Here lies a lass from Nantucket
Who said to this world “Aw ......
(well, you know)
In the 60’s there was a Top40 DJ, Dick Biondi, heard in the Buffalo and Chicago areas who called himself The Wild EYE-talian. I don’t recall the Italian anti defamation league or the Knights of Columbus raise any issues.
So now we have people going through the graveyards looking for offensive tombstones? Man’s been dead over a half century. Let him Rest In Peace as his tombstone says.
But does he weigh the same as a duck?
Coons like ducks.
They need to get a life, or maybe get a death.
What kind of degenerates wander through cemeteries looking to be offended by tombstone inscriptions? I wonder of any of these stones were damaged by being boarded up.
Exactly how many people would have known or have seen these grave markers? There is no telling how many head stones in cemeteries might have something considered offensive in todays world. Just leave it alone.
Next think you know all confederate cemeteries will be destroyed and plowed under because they are offensive to those of today.
Bet you’d find a lot worse on black gravestones.
Maybe BLM can give them new stones instead of giving the $ to politicians

How about this one for Al Jolson! “MAMMY!”

It cant be that offensive. Our governor here in Virginia is named Ralph Coonman Northam, and the Dims are just fine with having a blackface governor in charge.
I barely recognize this new society. This BS ‘Rona and Black Spring sure made its mark.
