The organization that puts on the Oscars announced Friday that, starting next year, films will be required to meet "representation and inclusion standards" to qualify for awards.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did not provide specifics on the new eligibility standards. The group said in a news release that it will form a task force of industry leaders to "develop and implement" the standards by the end of July.
While the Academy has made strides, we know there is much more work to be done in order to ensure equitable opportunities across the board, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. The need to address this issue is urgent. To that end, we will amendand continue to examineour rules and procedures to ensure that all voices are heard and celebrated.

So GWTW should be all good again?
I believe Hattie McDaniel took care of that problem on her own 80 years ago.
The role played also has to be complimentary to Blacks.
I, for one, cannot wait til the trannies start taking awards from the real men/women ... it is then that you’ll see Oscar-grade acting as they smile and applaud for the fraudulent winners.
“And this year’s Participation Trophy goes to token director...”
Heh, heh. I was thinking more of the acceptance speeches and whatnot but, yes, that was quite entertaining.
I used to go to movies often, several times a week...back in the Nineties.
Last movie I remember seeing was “American Sniper”, but the few I saw before that were so unpleasant that I just don’t want to go back.
There was a row of teenagers in front of me, all with their phones on, all talking, I asked them politely several times, then threatened to bring the manager down.
For all the good that would have done.
There is a new David Copperfield with an Indian guy in the title role.
> I guess most period dramas are verboten <
There is actually a way around that. Just turn the movie into an historical drama by adding pretend PC characters.
Example: In a movie about U-boats, have half the crew be female. Rosie O’Donnell could be the captain. And the head of Germanys submarine arm could be some black guy. It could work, I tell ya.
I don't go to movie theaters or watch the Oscars anymore, anyhow....because, frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn.

Meaning even historical movies like storming the beaches in Normandy better not just have men...
there better be a few women in hats with ears screaming obscenities at the men on the sand of Omaha Beach, a couple of soldiers in wheelchairs, a few homosexuals strutting their stuff in leotards in the surf and a few trannies doing each others hair and nails...
Oh and all the men must be black...well maybe one token white private...waaaaaay down in the background...but not doing anything heroic...he can get drowned in the surf...
That main hero guy the first to scale the cliffs... He could be Denzel Washington...no maybe Denzel should be Patton...
Yeah the possibilities are endless...
How about basing the nominations upon actual movie theater ticket sales?
Sorry he is privileged, not qualified for an oscar.
The last time i accidentally watched the Oscars...
I believe it was Shock and Awe that was playing on the TV at the bar in the Ground Round that night.
I was completely astonished at what i was looking at and in true fear for our uncertain future...totally captivated.
THEN some TOOL and his GF asked the bartender in the middle of all of this to put on the Oscars instead.
I completely flipped out on the guy i was like “WTF?” “Are you MENTAL?”
Almost got in a fight with the guy.
Anyways i didn’t get kicked out, the oscars went on the tv and soon after we all got to watch Michael Moore go into his crazed “LIAR” rant.
Being the polite guy that i am i actually apologized to the guy and his pretty GF who’s bum i had greatly admired in the past...they also hung out there a lot.
Anyhows...that was the last Oscar ceremony i had ever watched and ever plan on watching.
I’d rather watch paint dry...
David Niven never lost his cool. He expressed surprise that the man was willing to put his obvious shortcomings on full display.
buy ammo
I used to go to films once a week. That ended awhile ago.
Now, it is a rarity for me to watch a new film in a theater. Most of the movies that I see now are at retrospectives. The older movies are much better than the contemporary offal.
The what? You mean the thing Bob Hope used to MC that once was important?
Producers and investors want movies to be as successful as they can be, for the Bennies. Having a film win an Academy award greatly bolsters this success. Producers and investors will NOT want to approach the creation of any movie which doesnt have the chance of winning an Oscar, no matter how good the movie concept and quality. This requirement will kill good movies.
