I watched the video. The right hand had a cell phone in it, and he wasn’t reaching for anything. I don’t care if the old guy is a pain in the ass. What the cops did to him is outrageous. Government always gives itself license to abuse citizens because it’s in love with its self-image as being on a mission to save the world.
I don’t think we know what happened, until we hear what words were exchanged.
Think of yourself in a policeman’s shoes - you’re in a highly charged situation, someone comes at you saying who-knows-what, and then reaches out as if to grab, poke - whatever.
These guys have seen their brethren injured and even killed in recent days.
The armchair prosecutors and judges here should wait until they have all of the evidence.
Read what I said closer. He drama queened the push and lost his balance and it went to far. The cop didn’t make very solid contact on the push.
I’m really tired of the word ‘outrage’, and of all its various conjugations/permutations.
All I know is what I saw in the video - it looked to me as if the cop who actually did the shoving probably hadn’t meant to knock the man over but just to push him away. However, the bad thing was that he didn’t stop even when it was clear that he had pushed the guy too hard and the man was unconscious and bleeding. Also, he prevented another cop from stopping.
But other cops did stop and help, although now of course the press is hysterical and they’re all being blamed. Even looking at the video, you can tell that they were trying to help him, and I read that EMS was there almost immediately because they were already on the scene and at the ready.
The press is just waiting and drooling over the idea of getting something they can use to make all cops look bad. This afternoon the cops all resigned from this unit, btw, because they felt that the brass wasn’t supporting them.
And if you look closely, both of the cops shove him simultaneously.
He’s an experienced man who knows exactly how cops will and have to respond to someone obstructing their movement; he was prepared for it and he knows full well how to overact when the response does come.
You don’t have a history like he does and not learn anything.

So someone did stop to help the old man...within seconds. The “helpers” were able to help the man because they were behind a line of safety formed BY THE “SHOVER” AND THE OTHER COPS that didn’t stop.
Saw “long-time peace activist” in the headline. Immediately translated that to Anti-American pinko.

It’s not BS at all. The guy instigated an altercation with the cop and got pushed back. He lost his balance and fell on his head. Tough luck.
