The Black and White of 'Systemic Racism'

If you’re going to champion a cause, have the good grace or basic intelligence to push one that is not so easily undermined by reality... like “systemic racism.” At last check, we’re more than 50 years removed from “colored-only” anything; television commercials would have us believe that inter-racial couples are the rule today; and, diversity/inclusion is a lucrative industry and that’s on top of affirmative action. In short, there has never been a better time to be black in America. Until a few months ago, there was never a better time to be black and employed in America.

Then came the death of George Floyd, which was universally condemned. That point cannot be repeated often enough. No one supported the officer whose name won’t be mentioned here. In the ensuing outcry over Floyd’s death, however, many more black men were killed, by the people doing the protesting. These further black deaths have largely gone ignored because they cannot be squared with claim of systemic racism -- they cannot be rationalized at all. Forget the concept of “all lives matter;” it’s apparent that not even all black lives matter. Unless a cop is involved and facts don’t matter then, either.

Not only is ‘systemic racism’ grossly inaccurate, so is the claim that law enforcement officers seek out and target black citizens. No one told Tony Timpa that being white carried special privileges when he encountered cops. Or Daniel Shaver. In fact, the Shaver case was so egregious even the Atlantic couldn’t ignore it and to publication’s credit, it also noticed the elephant in the living room:

I do not think most non-black citizens appreciate being referred to as “systemic rascists” and “priveleged”. Our leaders, including the POTUS need to start framing this as an “Us vs Them” argument. “We” stand for equal protection under the law. “They” stand for lawlessness and license to steal and destroy at will.

Words no longer have to be true, they just have to be repeated often enough that people think they are true.

Nothing is ever perfect, but rational people should recognize that the 1980s were a pretty decent time for race relations. I was there. Race just wasn’t a big deal. But then we had Rodney King and the LA riots and we had OJ and those incidents were willfully inflamed into major political events. They didn’t have to be. But that model has now been followed for 25 years or more and EVERYTHING is a racial event now. It’s killing this country.

We’re told every day that we are privileged oppressors of minorities. That the fruits of our hard labors are somehow illegitimate. There are demands that we pay reparations for things we did not do. And then they call US the dividers! They live in an alternate reality. Wonder how they will enjoy picking through the trash for scraps of food if they get their way and turn us into Venezuala.

How about many black citizens are living (maybe even wallowing) in systemic victim hood and like it that way. It’s a mental thing that self-pride and refusal to play “poor, pitiful me” could cure.

Systemic Crime is a far more troublesome issue.

If law enforcement officers seek out and target black citizens how is it Antifa has a murder count of 15 now and the cops don’t.

It’s disgusting that the % of blacks who are thugs represent 100% of the black population. They don’t but the press and Ds won’t let you know that.

I guess it’s the same prejudice that all Asians are math geniuses and all whites are racist... Whatever it is, it’s absurd and offensive.

According to this article in today’s WSJ (https://www.wsj.com/articles/dont-call-rioters-protesters-11591293310), 15% of blacks in cities w/ riots, which constituted only 673 cities w/ over 25k residents, participated in the ‘68 riots, and the author believes a similar number today.

That means that a small minority of the black population participated in the riots. Even giving back 10-20% for those who participated in the riots, these behaviors are obviously representative of a small minority of the black population (just as they are of white, Asians, Hispanics).

Now, even if 100% of blacks — and they don’t — support the looting, clearly a small percentage of blacks actually participate in it.

So how do we account for the 85% of blacks are being defined by the 15% looters?

The quick answer is politics, media and culture. I get that. But I also get from these numbers that the vast majority of blacks disagree with the looting and violence but their voices are muted or diverted. My takeaway, then, is for Trump to keep speaking out against the rioters, since most blacks actually agree with that perspective.

You're correct. And I hope that the POTUS does what you say.
