The Chinese Communist Party is readying two new aircraft carriers for deployment off the coast of Taiwan that could lead to a military confrontation with the US ships in the region, as the relationship between the two global powers has become strained by trade issues and the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.
The ships Liaoning and Shandong, part of the People’s Liberation Army navy, are conducting military readiness drills in the Yellow Sea but are expected to move into the South China Sea to Pratas Island for invasion mock battles, CCP-controlled Global Times reported.

China Ping!
I wonder if they made by that same outfit that made the Venezuela ship that fired on the Cruise ship and then got sliced in half by the cruise ship or something like that.
Or not.
The Chinese communist party needs a diversion since it is failing at home.
Hence, incidents with India, and Hong Kong, and now probably Taiwan.
...a target rich environment.
They are, after all, based upon Soviet/Russian technology. You'll just LUV their 'flaming Kuznetsov'! EVERYONE wants one!
“The Chinese Communist Party is readying two new aircraft carriers for deployment off the coast of Taiwan....”
Oh, you mean the new OLD Russian carriers?
If the Chinese fire one little shot at us, our boys will eat them alive in no time.
Moving Tug Boats in place for the Big Tow I see
Just a matter of time when we see a military confrontation with China, either in the East/South China sea or off the coast of Taiwan.
Everything China is doing looks like they think its now or never
“Everything China is doing looks like they think its now or never”
China knows what will happen if they fire on the US Navy at sea.
They won’t do it. Their navy is a source of national pride and martial delusion. They don’t want to see it burning on CNN.
They’ll harass shipping and air routes instead, and make outlandish threats.
One was made in the Ukraine the other is a homemade copy of the first. Both have few planes, limited by big fuel loads, limited arms, and flight time - mostly good for costal fleet defense. Not so good on taking on gigantic aircraft carrier called Taiwan.
[Everything China is doing looks like they think its now or never]
Don’t think they occur? It happened even under Mao, who was the closest thing to a living god that China has had since the Communist dynasty won power in 1949. Deng Xiaoping, Peng Dehuai and a coterie of other bigwigs gradually eased Mao aside by removing his powers one after another. Mao struck back by initiating the Cultural Revolution. Peng was starved to death by Mao. Deng ran to the south where he was shielded by Ye Jianying from assassination. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye_Jianying#Life Some of the rest were hounded to their deaths.
Xi needs to act now, while his mind is still vigorous enough to simultaneously prosecute a war while fending off his internal rivals. The next dozen or so years are his only chance at transcending Mao to elevate his name to the level of China’s all-time great rulers.
Wonder if the Chinese Communist party is doing a distraction for the things going on the China, some heads are going to roll after the virus blow up.

Xi is building a war machine to do what countries do with war machines - acquire real estate. Europe spends nothing on its military because it’s not interested in acquiring real estate. The US spends a little more (but, as a % of national output, 1/3 of Eisenhower-era levels) to make up for the fact that Europe’s head-in-the-sand approach means someone has to buy insurance to ensure we’re not caught with our pants down when history resumes its inexorable march, and rulers decide to buy themselves fame (or infamy) by conquering and annexing their neighbors.
If we had to use a board game analogy, the difference would be between Monopoly and Risk. The first is essentially a game involving administration where you tweak this and tweak that, but you’re essentially trying to build your wealth. The second is a game involving power politics where you are trying to impose your will on your rivals and stamping your name in the history books - like Alexander and Caesar, you are interested in fame for posterity. Current era history writers and political commentators have beaten us over the head with the idea that rulers are basically interested in games of Monopoly. That’s in stark contrast to thousands of years of history that indicate they’re mostly interested in games of Risk.
Thinking that might be some of the motivation for the sudden Chinese militarization:
the recent Chinese military attack against India at the border
the recent Hong Kong freedom riots
Battleships heading towards Taiwan
All of these actions serve as a distraction from the failure of the Chinese Central Bureau's economic policies.
In China, one must maintain 'keeping face'.
Indeed they have greater fear of India then they let on and your list shows they are in a near panic mode.
Yep. China is a paper tiger.
The 2 Carriers are early in the operations learning cycle and useless, except to be big fat targets.
Same thing goes for the Spratly’s and Paracels and the 3 artificial Reefs.
We could knock all of that into oblivion with 1 sub and 1 Cruiser. We wouldn’t even need manned airpower or Deep Strike Stealth.
