A black man says he asked a white woman in Central Park to put her dog on a leash.
Then, video shows her calling police and telling emergency operators that the man was threatening her and her dog. The woman, who has been identified as Amy Cooper, has apologized. But by Tuesday afternoon she was fired from her job at an investment management firm.
"Following our internal review of the incident in Central Park yesterday, we have made the decision to terminate the employee involved, effective immediately. We do not tolerate racism of any kind at Franklin Templeton," the company said in a statement posted to Twitter.
Maybe her employers got a good look at her demeanor, and Im pretty sure its shown itself before.
If her bosses didn’t see this themselves, I’m sure her co-workers made sure.
Boss: “Dang! How did we get so lucky? HR?”
HR: “No way she can come back on us as she did this outside of the workplace. Totally inappropriate.”
Boss: “Done...and done.”
Ok, no one else in the world knows your dogs. strangers do not know how your dogs are. there is no mental telepathy for anyone to know what your particular dogs are like.
If there's a lesson to be learned...don't put your employer in a bad spot.
Yeah and i would imagine they are gated/fenced areas where they’re all in one big fenced in section.
I’d fire someone in a heartbeat wo mistreated their dog OR called the police in such a bogus manner. If I were black, damned right I’d tape everything.
This has more the ‘Birder vs dog owner’ vibe, and that can get quite nasty, too!
The conversation before the video starts.
Look, if youre going to do what you want, Im going to do what I want, but youre not going to like it....HER: Whats that?....ME (to the dog): Come here, puppy!....HER: He wont come to you....ME: Well see about that.
That's a threat. I probably wouldn't call the police about someone threatening my dog, but if I did I'd describe the perp. I acknowledge her description isn't great, but describing him to police as black, I assume he was, after a threat isn't racism.
I can’t see the racism here. Maybe a false police complaint,
True, this guy was out of line too, messing with her dog. But there is no one to fire him apparently.
The dog wasnt bother him. He was being a prissy, busy body. Secretly wants to be a politician or cop or both. She should have gotten herself and the dog away from him asap. Why can’t people just leave other people alone.
I haven’t watched the video. Do we know the guy didn’t make threatening gestures? Gee, maybe he was holding a shotgun or a knife. Maybe he kept his hand in his pocket like he had a knife. Do we know for sure? It seems everyone is over reacting.
I suspect one thing. The policeman who held his foot on the guy’s throat who ultimately died will get paid longer than this woman. That doesn’t seem fair.
It also doesn’t seem fair that people working in the private sector lose their jobs while people working in the public sector keep their jobs and get to decide whether we should reopen or not.

There aren't too many places on Wall Street that offer union protection; it's not like she will have a shop steward arguing on her behalf anytime soon.
In any event, it wouldn't matter; all of the employment agreements in the private sector are crystal clear that employment is "at will". And if it sounds harsh that one's stupidity outside of the job could get him or her fired, there are certain types of behavior that reflect an absolutely abysmal lack of judgment.
Someone sliding down a railing at a football game went over the side and fell on top of someone in the next level; he was fired from his position within days of the incident. deadspin.com
That he was enjoying the day off on his own time meant nothing to his employer.
I would agree.
She acts and talks with liberal democrat traits. The man did the smart thing by recording the incident because no matter what color he is, he’d have probably been sitting in jail at this time with her word against his.
No, but he was out of line by intending on using dog treats to lure him away from her.
Something wrong with this guy. He carries treats just for this type of situation? What? Is he a dog leash vigilante? What if the treats are poisoned?

This is an explicitly marked wildlife sanctuary and bird watching site in the park with very visible postings about dogs have to be on leashes. She is “entitled” to what is coming to her.
(Entitled being the operative word)
Anyone can be charged with anything. He threatened he by stating he'd lure her dog with treats and she wouldn't like what happened. That's a threat. She strikes me as acting over the top as well, but he threatened her, more accurately her property, it's not a false report. A complete waste of time, yes.
She was being a lawbreaking idiot. And a liar.
There’s not a damned thing wrong with asking somebody to obey a well established law; her little entitled lying self got what it deserved.
The dog rescue in NYC took the dog back from her. She adopted the dog on a trial basis.
