'I don't think he knows': Dave Portnoy questions Fauci after hearing 'seven different answers' on coronavirus
washingtonexaminer ^ | May 23, 2020 | Spencer Neale

Posted on 05/23/2020 5:42:33 AM PDT by MarvinStinson

The founder of Barstool Sports is raising questions about the efficacy of the White House's top infectious disease doctor in charge of responding to the coronavirus.

Dave Portnoy told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Friday that he is unsure whether Dr. Anthony Fauci knows what he is doing after hearing Fauci make contrasting statements about the disease and how people can fight against it.

"I don't mean to pile on Fauci, but we're making very important decisions based on what he's saying, and I think it's OK to say, 'I really don't know guys,'" Portnoy said. "But I get the feeling that if you ask him this question or what's one plus one equal, you're going to get seven different answers. It's OK to say you don't know."

"It's a moving target. It's a disease we've never met with before, but that's why I think, at this point, you've got to let people, individuals make decisions for themselves," Portnoy said. "The only thing, as I said before, that we absolutely know for certain is that if you continue the quarantine, you continue the lockdown, tons of people are going to lose their livelihoods."

"Those people should have the choice to make the decision rather than depend on things that — listen, Fauci may be the nicest guy in the world, but he said, 'wear mask, don't wear mask,'" continued Portnoy. "He said, you know, 'The lockdown is going to go on indefinitely. We've got to end the lockdown.' So, it's just tough to really put that much stake in what he's saying when I don't think he knows."

Portnoy said Fauci should be more accountable on areas where he might have been wrong about the coronavirus and that the "American people" like politicians with "strong opinions" who are willing to admit their mistakes. The sports commentator added that he doesn't completely trust what Fauci says on a daily basis.

"There's videos of Fauci all through this. He's on different sides depending on the day, depending on the mood, like I said, the way the wind blows, you know, we're making seemingly life-changing decisions for other people based on facts that clearly are not facts," said Portnoy.

Portnoy was complimentary of Fauci at several points during the interview, suggesting he understood why Fauci discussed the coronavirus with Hollywood celebrities, including Julia Roberts, because "he has a believable face."

Basking is much different than 10 minutes in the sun. Good old common sense. Stay under an umbrella or clothing cover otherwise.

“he’s a Hilliary loving COUP PLOTTER!”

I hope that what I’ve heard about Trump is true, i.e., that he always, always, ALWAYS gets even, and that he’s patient.

Lets face it Fauci is a scientist as well as a bureaucrat who is in his little world and does not understand the working world and most likely he sides with the left. But he does not understand that what he saids what major effects it has on the American people who unlike him need their jobs back to pay the bills, etc. Sure he was getting pressure from other doctors about the mental behavior effects that are occurring from the lockdowns.

“has been a civil servant (i. e., bureaucrat) for 52 years.” With no field experience:

There in lies the problem. Personal story: I was discussing a case with an assistant US Attorney with the knowledge a low level perp wanted to plead guilty. Our agency required formal referrals to be “approved” by agency counsel. Weeks went by with no approval. The USA, who was not going to be a career employee, called the counsel and asked where is that referral. The counsel started coming up with all the reasons the case would not be successful (he had NEVER appeared in any court). Finally the USA said to him, well, when you get fone trying the case on your desk a hole, send it over so I can get this plea done and move on to the ringleaders. He reluctantly did, result 4 OC convictions for bribing public officials based in part on the plea witness testimony.

” Fauci is a scientist ... and does not understand the working world ...

My husband is a scientist, in missile defense for decades before his retirement. It was his JOB to understand how his actions, findings, etc., would impact America and the world. A virus can be as deadly as a missile. (They don’t call them “bio-WEAPONS” for nothing.)

Fauci doesn’t get to play the ignorance card. Uh uh. No f’king way. He had an agenda, clearly established by his handlers, including Hillary to whom he declared his love in writing.

” most likely he (Fauci) sides with the left.” “MOST LIKELY”? How many photos have you seen where the goblin is cozying up to any right-leaning politician, celebrity, etc.?

Fauci is like the wind. Sometimes it blows east, sometimes it blows west, sometimes it blows north, sometimes it blows south. But no matter the day or time, it BLOWS.

Fauci is not a scientist he’s a bureaucrat. Head has been the head of the NIAID for 36 years. This is not a research position.

Partner, Fauci is nothing more than a “Big DemonRat” party guy plus he is 80 years old and Fauci needs to retire now. It already sounds like is has the on set of Alzheimer’s or Dementia or both.

Fauci needs to be fired or just given a retirement party. He is part of the Swamp problem we currently have in D.C.

Fauci is basking in his own contrived celebrity since this thing put him behind a podium.

He feels he needs to say something profound every time someone shoves a microphone in his face no matter how contradictory or stupid it is.

I didn’t catch this but apparently on Thursday USA Today ran an op-ed by Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Andy Biggs calling out Fauci for his lockdown gloom and doom.

Next day Dr. Tony went into backpedal mode. It’s all a matter of getting the right people to criticize him apparently.

Partner, u have hit a homerun with ur statement . Great post.

We can be assured that Fauci will b history if we need to have a lay off of employees which we need right now.

I think that Fauci is on President Trump’s radar so if Fauci is not on Pence’s radar?

It’s amazing that people like that are making the decisions. Especially since many people who became bureaucrats (in any field) probably did so because they didn’t think they could hack the real thing...or they had actually lost interest in the profession itself (be it law, medicine or anything else) but didn’t want to throw away all those years spent getting their credentials so they used them to hop into a comfy little bureaucratic job. This, unfortunately, gives them way too much power over those who actually practice the profession.

Congratulations on sticking with the case!

End the “official expert” roles in government. All of them. The government decision makers can on an as needed basis pull in a variety of “experts” and get their opinions, which in the best case will not all be the same. None will be “the best” and perfect, there is no such thing.

It is wrong to assume merely appointing someone to a position suddenly imbues them with unsurpassed intelligence, knowledge and opinions on a subject for which none others can compete.

The key problem with Fauci is that he holds an “expert” position over a subject in government that should not exist.

It's OK to say you don't know.

One smartest people I ever knew, Tom, whose education was a Ph.D. in mathematics or electrical engineering, would ask great questions in meetings. Often it would be something fairly simple that I thought I should probably know, but I was too embarrassed to ask for an explanation. Tom would ask and usually it was what I was thinking anyway but not quite sure of. From him I learned to ask questions even if they seem simple. It's OK to say you don't know.
