The director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Friday that William Bryan, the neighbor who filmed Ahmaud Arbery's death, was not a good Samaritan or simply a witness as Bryan has claimed, but a significant player in the February killing of the unarmed black man.
"If we believed he was a witness, we wouldn't have arrested him," GBI Director Vic Reynolds said Friday. "There's probable cause and we're comfortable with that."
Bryan, who filmed the four-minute chase and shooting death of Arbery, was arrested Thursday evening.
The 50-year-old was taken into custody and charged with felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment. Two other men, Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis McMichael, 34, allegedly went after Arbery, trapped and shot him four times. They were arrested on charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment earlier this month.
Bryan, who is white, recorded the Feb. 23 confrontation as the McMichaels who are also white pursued Arbery while he was running through the Satilla Shores neighborhood, about 25 minutes away from downtown Brunswick.
"We don't go into a situation of this nature investigating a person or persons, we go in and investigate a set of facts and once we start turning stones over sometimes there's one or two stones underneath that need to be turned over," Reynolds said.
In Georgia, a person can be charged with felony murder if he or she is alleged to have contributed to another person's death, even unintentionally, while committing another felony.
Reynolds also said that state investigators had found "a number of pieces of video" that linked Bryan to the case.

I am not there but I do find it interesting to watch people feeling compelled to take sides in a case like this - one side vs the other. They go back and forth.
I side with none of the losers in this case — whether it be this so-called jogger or the bubbas in the truck. The whole thing was stupid.
I do find the arrest of the guy filming the shooting to be strange but perhaps more will come out later ... or not.
Or, maybe you are the type of person that will excuse the Michigan nursing home beater because he was black?
Why are you so emotionally invested in your narrative?
So is video taping a crime make u just as guilty as the person committing the crime. This is a first.
It’s not worth posting about. All the FReeper lawyers have made up their minds about this case, that an unarmed man who had committed no crime and was being chased by a number of armed men in two cars over an extended period of time is actually the aggressor and the armed individuals in the vehicles are the victims. In all my years here on FR I’ve never seen anything like it.
Next, let’s indict Abe Zapruder for complicity in the JFK murder.
Ahmaud Arbery Was NOT Jogging, Caught on Camera Committing Crimes:

The accused in Michigan and the three accused in Georgia are all sitting in jail. Good chance that they will all do prison time.
I guess you missed the statement that McMichaels gave to the police where he said “Roddy” (Williams’ nickname) had tried to cut Arbery off with his car while he was running.
Williams then started following him and videoing him.... as he ran right into roadblock that had men with guns blocking the road.
He didn’t just happen to film the guy. He was involved with the chase of him.
He was arrested because he tried to block Arbery's path (at the other end of the S/D) with his car (or that at least is the allegation).
That is a felony (attempted false imprisonment) as I understand it. And since a person was killed as part of the commission of this attempted "felony"...that translates to a "felony murder" charge for everyone involved.
Its a reoccurring theme
“Next, lets indict Abe Zapruder for complicity in the JFK murder.”
Had Zapruder known Oswald, gone with him to the Book Depository with knowledge of what Lee Harvey was planning, Abe would have been arrested.
Georgia is 1/3 black. Blacks there vote like the rest of the black population. The only thing that keeps the state Republican is whites voting for the GOP at rates far exceeding whites in the rest of the country. Unfortunately, that rate is nowhere near the 90% number at which blacks vote for Democrats. Bottom line? They don’t need this case driving up black turnout. So the AG will give this trio the third degree, until election season is over, or for as long as the media gives this case headlines.
Smells like bullshit to me.
A political charge, based on the demands of the “family”.
He was unarmed and had no communication with the shooters.
Didn’t he think he was filming the detention of a thief in the neighborhood?
How can this filmer know that killing would happen?

I read somewhere yesterday that the video guy did more than just videotape, he participated in attacking the guy.
