New York (CNN Business)The economy has gone from President Donald Trump's greatest political asset to perhaps his biggest weakness.
Unemployment is spiking at an unprecedented rate. Consumer spending is vanishing. And GDP is collapsing. History shows that dreadful economic trends like these spell doom for sitting presidents seeking reelection.
The coronavirus recession will cause Trump to suffer a "historic defeat" in November, a national election model released Wednesday by Oxford Economics predicted.
The model, which uses unemployment, disposable income and inflation to forecast election results, predicts that Trump will lose in a landslide, capturing just 35% of the popular vote. That's a sharp reversal from the model's pre-crisis prediction that Trump would win about 55% of the vote. And it would be the worst performance for an incumbent in a century.
"It would take nothing short of an economic miracle for pocketbooks to favor Trump," Oxford Economics wrote in the report, adding that the economy will be a "nearly insurmountable obstacle for Trump come November."
The model has correctly predicted the popular vote in every election since 1948 other than 1968 and 1976 (although two candidates lost the popular vote but won the presidency in that span, including George W. Bush in 2000 and Donald Trump in 2016).

This poll was taken to offset the disastrous one they took last week which showed Trump demolishing Biden in all the swing States.

CNN is sinking fast. They’ve been pimping for the Democrats and the Chinese so long they haven’t had time to look around. They will become as irrelevant as the Democrats and will fade into history.
I have a feeling it is not so much the tanking of the economy that they are counting on, but the fact that they have replaced the free-market economy with a massive government hand-out program. People are becoming acclimated to accepting checks in exchange for restrictions on freedom and dictates by the experts that ensure health and safety. It all taps in to the “inner child” which shudders in the face of a life lived with full freedom and its attendant set of responsibilities.
This conditioning has been going on for decades and each election cycle the Dems have the chance to cry out (like the obnoxious child in the back seat of the car), “Are we there yet?”
“Do they have a model that predicts who runs against Trump?”
They need a model that predicts how many active brain cells Biden will have left by November.

Don’t expect CNN to promote anything objective, accurate, or honest. Those concepts would be highly toxic to them, making them strangle, choke, and possibly die.
If Trump loses it will be because of the economy and Covid, not Biden. But a lot can happen in both areas between now and November so it is way too early to believe models like this.
CNN sold their souls to the dimrat party when Clinton was in office. And only gotten worse since then.
