Trump will lose in a landslide because of the economy, new election model predicts
CNN ^ | May 20, 2020 | Matt Egan

The economy has gone from President Donald Trump's greatest political asset to perhaps his biggest weakness.

Unemployment is spiking at an unprecedented rate. Consumer spending is vanishing. And GDP is collapsing. History shows that dreadful economic trends like these spell doom for sitting presidents seeking reelection.

The coronavirus recession will cause Trump to suffer a "historic defeat" in November, a national election model released Wednesday by Oxford Economics predicted.

The model, which uses unemployment, disposable income and inflation to forecast election results, predicts that Trump will lose in a landslide, capturing just 35% of the popular vote. That's a sharp reversal from the model's pre-crisis prediction that Trump would win about 55% of the vote. And it would be the worst performance for an incumbent in a century.

“LOL, didn’t take long to replace their poll last week saying he would win in a landslide by capturing all the swing states.”

Sure, why else would they do this? They must have caught holy hell from the “believers”

First of all, its way too early.

Then you have the fact that almost 100% of republicans will vote for Trump. That is not true for Biden’s democrats.

Then you have the fact that not all Americans are going to “blame” Trump for the economy or unemployment. His comment about “We did it before, we will do it again...” for the economy is pretty accurate.

I would tell the poll takers to save the drama for September and October.

It amazes me the media hasn’t learned that we stopped believing their bogus polls in 2016. They are setting up the exact same Hillary-is-Inevitable-porn-fantasy for Biden.
~~guys it is simply not going to happen this year.

I work in a Liberal heavy environment. NONE of them talk politics, they are not excited about Biden, they do not repeat the latest media talking points.
~~In fact the liberals I work with have largely tuned out the media as it is a broken record, Trump 24/7.

Conclusion: Media has lost the trust of America and it may take a generation to get it back again.

“The model, which uses unemployment, disposable income and inflation to forecast election results, predicts that Trump will lose in a landslide, capturing just 35% of the popular vote.”

BS. No GOP candidate has lost the presidential election with less than 35% since Taft. Even Hoover got 39.7% in 1932. Could Trump lose with 42-44%? Sure, but that’s a longshot even D-rat pollsters will concede to.

I’d even wager it doesn’t have an input for “Extinction Level Asteroid Impact,” either.

No.

Hillary won the popular vote.

There are more of them than there are of us. The polls are to keep the faithful faithful

I think the important thing is Trump’s leadership and crisis management. It has been exemplary, in my opinion. The base of voters on both sides will agree or disagree. The big question is how that 1/3 in the middle sees his crisis management. That will determine the outcome.

!00% desperate wishful thinking on the part of CNN.The polls show the populace does not blame Trump for this, quite the contrary.

GOP won both elections last week, one seat that was formerly held by a Democrat. If voters in both districts thought that President Trump was doing a poor job in handling the coronavirus, they would had voted for the Democrat.
