Samaritan’s Purse has no expectation of receiving a single penny for the weeks of work they did in Central Park to combat the coronavirus. But now New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is asking them to pay up.
Earlier this week, the Rev. Franklin Graham, president of the nonprofit organization, told Faithwire, “They’re the ones who called us originally,” referring to officials with the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City. “We didn’t call them; they called us,” he continued. “And we agreed to go and we have not charged them one penny. All of our services have been paid by God’s people.”
Samaritan’s Purse workers were on the ground, setting up a 68-bed field hospital right after receiving the call, and now they’re being held financially liable for their goodwill because, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), he’s “not in a position to provide any subsidies right now.”
So even though New York lawmakers and hospital executives asked workers to come from out of state to help in the fight against the coronavirus, they will now have to pay state taxes — even on income they might have made from their home state while they were temporarily living in New York, according to WPIX-TV.

I like the way Cuomo tries to put the blame on Trump. If the feds give him $13B he won’t have to do this.

You see the same pattern again and again, form Russia to Cuba to Venezuela to North Korea.
The "taxes" in question here are the income taxes that might be owed to New York by the employees of Samaritan's Purse if they were paid by Samaritan's Purse while they were working in New York.
There's nothing outrageous about this. If this was a problem for any of these "volunteers," they really should have addressed it before they went to work in New York.

The Communist North never lets a good deed go unpunished.
It is beyond outrageous. Any person who “volunteers” to go help New York again in the future should be on notice that this is how the Big Apple pays you back.
What does this say about New York? What does it say that the man who presides over this mess of a state is the pick of most democrats to be their champion and run the nation in lieu of their weak candidate?
I cannot begin to verbalize my disgust over this in a family friendly manner.
The MSM is not covering the real story (yet) of what the state of NY did to their nursing homes and most vulnerable citizens, but that is a story that will not go away. There are going to be many angry families when they realize their loved ones were likely killed because of a bureaucratic decision to place infected people back in nursing homes.
They whined and cried that they needed all of this stuff to fight the pandemic yet they never closed down the subway system? The federal government and thousands of Americans stepped up to help them and this is how they “pay it back.”

How can they owe any New York State income tax if they did not earn any income from any activities in the state of New York?
How can you levy an income tax on income which people did not receive?
I think someone has misread or misinterpreted the tax law.
