NEW YORK (Reuters) - Joe Biden's advantage over President Donald Trump in popular support has eroded in recent weeks as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee struggles for visibility with voters during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

The opinion poll conducted on Monday and Tuesday found that 43% of registered voters said they would support Biden in the Nov. 3 presidential election, while 41% said they would back Trump. That makes the contest essentially a toss-up, as the results are within the poll's credibility interval.

Biden led by 6 percentage points in a similar poll last week and by 8 points in a poll that ran April 15 to 21.

Depending, this could easily be the last election held in this nation.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing TBH. This county really needs to split. Life is messy and so would be a dissolution, but half the county is gangrene from communism and amputation is really the only thing that might save us at this point.

There is a long way to go to the election and the fact is that Hillary came inches to winning four year ago so nothing can be taken for grated.

I will vote for Trump but I am getting angrier and more frustrated by the day watching normality disappear with no end game in sight. You get excoriated here if you say anything but that Trump is basically flawless but I have never really heard a plan on how we get out of this mess and if it returns in the fall before the first round is even over then all bets are off.

A few things that really bother me is how strong a push Trump made for ventilators and he hasn’t done anything similar for much simpler testing machines that could allow many industries (churches, day care, malls, sports, etc) to open up tomorrow. If one kid at a day care has it then now countless families may have it and are home for at least 14 days and out of work. And then they all have to be tested anyway.

Also it bothers me when Trump constantly says that ‘they’ came to him and said he had to shut down the economy. Sounds like passing the buck and brings up the issue of Sweden. Obviously their leader made a decision not to follow the advice of those who Trump followed and it looks like Sweden may have made a good decision. We have to wait and see if their gamble pays off but when Trump talks about Sweden he makes it sound like it is very obvious that they made an awful decision. That’s just not true. I’m in Mass. We are basically in a prison state now, have less people than Sweden, and a much higher death rate than Sweden who has largely stayed open. And they could obtain a herd immunity and have little to worry about in the fall when we could be starting round two.

I think that seeing the true employment impact that CV is having on our economy, and an emerging awareness of the resulting demand destruction, will roil the markets.

But that is just the first shoe to drop, so to speak. A wave of bankruptcies is on its way.

This wicked combo is going to cause a retracement at some point. The V shaped market “recovery” (thanks largely to money printing) won’t hold. We’re a long way from being out of the woods.

What advantage has Biden EVER had over Trump?

Not looks, certainly not mental acuity, not truth telling, hair sniffing?, well maybe that one. Fondling little girls? Well maybe that one too. Kissing little boys on the mouth and holding baby boys by their crotch? Okay, I give up, Creepy uncle Joe has advantages in those areas.

“Biden made a mistake hiding in his basement.”

actually, given biden’s rapid and obvious senile deterioration, hiding is his best strategy by far ... of course, hiding is not exactly a winning strategy, but not hiding is going to guarantee a huge loss, not just with biden but the down-ticket damage that such a loss will incur as well ...

It's adorable that anyone actually believed the lie that Biden ever had an edge.

I think you are correct, but who do they replace him with, someone with a chance to win?, or someone that might save the House (easy), take senate (hard).

That is their conundrum and why they are dragging it out. I do not have a good answer for their problem—what a pity. With the Cuomo flameout they are now looking for a Plan C.
