Kansas City mayor defends ‘Nazi-like’ policy registering people attending church

A conservative law firm is calling a new order in Kansas City, Missouri, "Nazi-like" for requiring churches to "surveil, track, and spy" on anyone who attends an in-person service.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas issued the 10/10/10 rule in effect May 5, ordering that nonessential businesses, like churches, can have 10 people inside and 50 people outside as long as they practice social distancing. They also must record the information of anyone who spends more than 10 minutes inside.

In addition, nonessential businesses can operate at 10 percent maximum capacity.

The order states that by recording names and contact information, the health department will be able “to more quickly trace, test, and isolate individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19.” Anyone who doesn't provide their information won't be allowed in.

“Our goal isn’t to see what everyone is doing and be Big Brother,” Lucas said, according to FOX 4, but that's not how many in the community see it.

My (huge)—15K people attend over 5 campuses—church purposefully does not or offer “membership” or take attendance. Hasn’t for 25 years. Now I see why. (Of course they have email lists though, for those who choose to provide the church that info.)

Churches are to be welcoming to all.

Why not for Wal-Mart’s too?

We could flood the zone. Just send the mayor a hundred lists right out of the phone book.

Start with this list and go from there:

If you’re a member of a church, they have a registry. Whether they give it to the govt is another thing. The Commie mayor is wanting you to sign in as you enter. It’s blatantly unconstitutional without a doubt, citizens are supposed to be free to move about, assemble, and even protest the communists.

Catholic churches don’t keep a list, but if they initiated one I would refuse to attend or present falsified info. Virus transmission is so variable and nowhere near quantifiable that it would prove nothing even if it was kosher to keep attendance. I’m convinced that half the data we have is bogus.

Don’t forget the American Nazi was an actual group right before WWII. Communists/Socialists have been infiltrating/ “organizing” in the USA since 1917(maybe before that).

I am NOT defending Lucas, but...

...because the order applies across the board to ALL commercial establishments and does not single out churches for unique treatment this will, unfortunately, pass Constitutional muster.

The USDOJ gets involved when churches are treated more severely. I doubt that they can touch this.

Saying it is only about “who MIGHT BE EXPOSED” is like saying guilty until proven innocent. The reverse argument should be stated as “You, the government, prove I have been exposed” and then you can have my information. Until then my business is not your business.

Who the heck puts their name in a book or signs a register before attending church?

If it's anything like mine, most folks to register attendance in some way. We have cards that are handed out with the order of service, that many folks put in the offering plate because they have their tithe set up as an autodraft.

Under the Commerce Clause, maybe. The mayor’s actions are a prima facie bright-line violation of the Establishment Clause. Government cannot compel you to reveal any data in order to assembly freely in worship.

The mayor knows this, this is his bid to appease Moloch.

He’s a Democrat. Of course he doubled-down on Nazi-like policies. It’s what Democrats do.
