Most of us have been in lockdown for about six weeks. The objective was to flatten the curve and reduce the total number of victims of COVID-19. Well, the curve has been flattened indeed, but how is it six-weeks later there are 25,375 new cases in a single day?
With all the laws and policies implemented to knock out this virus, I expected we’d be on the last leg of the downward curve by now. But, instead of a peak and decline, we’ve had three peaks and shallow valleys between them.
If people are staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public, washing their hands and sanitizing everything in sight, how is it that COVID-19 continues to be transmitted from person to person?
A couple possibilities that occurred to me are that: 1) People flouting the laws, or 2) The virus is phenomenally virulent beyond anything ever seen before ( bio-weapon).
I was fully on board with the lockdown orders when they were issued. It was what we needed to do to beat this. However, we are at the point that the cure is becoming worse than the disease. In addition to what this virus has done to people directly, what about the collateral damage, such as long-term damage to our economy? For instance, consider the first two trillion dollar bail-out. Who pays for it? If you are among the approximate one-hundred-million US tax payers, you do. The federal government just signed your name to a $20,000 loan. Don’t think so? Do the math.
It would be particularly interesting to hear the stories of COVID-19 cases that you’ve heard of in the last couple weeks and theories of how they were exposed.
Should we just let this thing take an inevitable course, or should we double-down on lock-down?
And it’s not 2 weeks, it’s 7 weeks!
This so called “deadly disease” has brought about police states. I’d rather be dead than give up my Constitutional Rights.
My state is a police state right now, and I learned that our police aren’t on our side. They will carry out orders even when those orders violate our Constitution. I have always been supportive of our police as my grandfather was Deputy Sheriff of Philadelphia and I come from a family of cops and fireman. Nephews and cousins who are detectives now.Those days are long gone.The police will carry out their orders and they aren’t public servants anymore.

We can’t socialize with our family (under 250 then under 50 then under 10 then no one not living in the house blah blah blah). No weddings or funerals or parties. No sacraments.

yes, I know first hand of two cases where they “blurred” the code and as one Doc said, let’s just assume it was Covid 19. I suppose this is to be expected when Fed $s flow
I’m also in Northern Alabama and our area has shown absolutely no increase.
We have had only one case since this insanity began, and that number remains the same.
And, no, most people don’t wear masks or gloves. Only a few elderly people wear masks and, of course, the Walmart employees, who are forced to wear masks.
Of course, with this hot, humid weather we are having, that will further help to kill the virus.
Mu daughter has said the same. She was working with alcohol and drug withdrawal patients because they were sent to her floor. She wasn’t trained for that. Same with other surgeries. But working with COVID patients because they’re sent to her floor and she’s glad because it keeps her working and hours aren’t cut. My Son in law is a PT and his hours were cut and he was put on hourly pay.
She cross trained for ICU covid patients but hasn’t been needed there. So working with Covid patients moved from ICU to C-T. Working with all surgeries now. Fortunately, Cardio-thoracic now has surgeries again. HUP is doing “elective” surgeries again.
Yep, as you said, half staff (especially doctors) laid off and ERs are empty.
For weeks we were all told NOT to wear a mask, that it was useless.
Then suddenly one day we were ordered to wear them unless we wanted to kill people.

The surgical masks do not protect the person wearing it from exposure. Those masks do help to cut down on transmission FROM the person wearing it to the person not wearing it(usually a patient in surgery).
So basically what they tried to tell people was that a mask was not going to protect you if you wore it—keeping your distance was the ticket to existence.
However, if you are infected with something you cab block some transmission to others with such a mask, just like using a Kleenex when you sneeze helps reduce spread to other people.
I thought it was pretty clear from the git go.
How about six weeks of increased testing has discovered new COVID-19 cases. It’s the deaths (real one caused by proven COVID-19) and hospital loading that we should be concerned about.
The only way it should be counted as a ‘new case’ is if the people were tested clear of CV-19 the day before and then tested positive the next day. Otherwise is should be called an ‘old case’ that we just found out about because we just tested them for the first time.
