Anxious to spur an economic recovery without risking lives, President Donald Trump on Sunday insisted that “you can satisfy both” — see states gradually lift lockdowns while also protecting people from the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 60,000 Americans.
The president, fielding questions from Americans in a virtual town hall from the Lincoln Memorial, acknowledged valid fears on both sides of the issue. Some people are worried about getting sick; others are reeling from lost jobs and livelihoods.
But while Trump increased his projection for the total U.S. death total to 80,000 or 90,000 — up by more than 20,000 fatalities from what he had suggested just a few weeks ago — he struck a note of urgency to restart the nation’s economy, declaring “we have to reopen our country.”
“We have to get it back open safely but as quickly as possible,” Trump said.

He also singled out VA Governor Northram, WA Governor Islee, and CA Governor Newsome for “moving too slowly”.
I wish PA’s Tommie the Commie Wolf would have been on that list.

Trump’s transparencies is coupled with no introspectve...no self awareness of how he sounds or how he comes across.. i recognize this.. my better half was like that. if there is anything that needs to be changed or corrected. they have to be told .. they just dont think in that direction. they go about their merry way and if there is a problem. it must be someone else..
they are high intelligence.. but the dont pretend or put on.. and they do what they think.. its normal to them.

I thing the DOJ will be stepping in shortly my state TOTAL CASES are 0.0013% YET Newsom has not even started to open at all, law suits have started SCOTUS needs to fast track this, it will only take a ruling for one state and the rest will have to follow!! This crap is absolutely unconstitutional!!!
Add NC Governor Cooper to the list. Rumor has it he secretly has plans to drag it out until June push for vote by mail.

When the State lets you go to the grocery store or hardware store but is demanding mail-in voting, ITS NOT ABOUT YOUR HEALTH.
WAKE UP PEOPLE — If you think this is all about your health you’re mistaken! Please open your eyes! Stop being lead like blind sheep.”

Keep in mind that the governors are the ones with the authority to enforce the states’ rules, along with their legislatures. Congress can only appropriate or dispense money on a federal scale. The only thing Trump can do is effect monetary policy itself through Executive order, but he cannot force states to allow for businesses to open or not.
What the citizens in affected states DO have, of course, is the court system. They can sue on constitutional grounds, and for the most part have ample proof that the continued lockdown is not affecting the emergency. Of course, getting liberal judges would not help, but it can be appealed. This is the most appropriate use of the judicial system.
Incidentally, the NEXT big play by the Dems will be to create thousands of lawsuits all over the country to prevent businesses from opening and people to walk free, and many of those suits will be upheld. What is imperative is to ensure that we have enough lawfare battalions of our own to fight back.
Until it’s safe means never.
We can’t make everything completely safe, and sometimes you’re trading one risk for another.
There is plenty that President Trump can do to make recalcitrant, dictatorial states come to heel, especially since their tax revenues are sharply down.
As for lawsuits, its the freedom fighters who have launched hundreds of lawsuits against tyrannical governors not the other way round.
He’ll pay a political price for doing so. However I believ the Demorats would gladly ‘pay’ well any state Gov. willing to extend opening as nearer to the election they can claim they have no but to do mail voting..
This is the boy damn way to get these governors under control SUE them I believe the SCOTUS is going to have to step in on this mess, Maine and CA. are out of control numbers SO LOW yet taking citizens constitutional freedoms and not budging!!

Not saying he is wrong, but Mr. Trump knows if the economy tanks any further his support is going to wane.
