Coronavirus: Older people will 'rebel and risk prison' if forced to be locked down longer

Older people will "rebel and risk prison" if they are forced to remain in lockdown longer while restrictions are eased, a former Tory pensions minister has warned.

Conservative peer Baroness Altmann argued such a requirement would be "age discrimination" and could cost lives as well as threaten social unrest.

Her comments come amid growing concern the over-70s could be told to isolate for longer than the rest of the population when the rules to cope with COVID-19 start to be relaxed.

The government has previously said people in this age group are especially vulnerable to coronavirus.

Speaking to Sky News' Sophy Ridge On Sunday programme, the former pensions minister said: "I certainly hope as we move out of the curent emergency phase of lockdown there won't be some kind of blanket policy to forbid people of any particular age from leaving their own homes or from being part of the community.

"Using an age-based criteria would be fundamentally wrong and actually would potentially cost the lives of many people, and risks social unrest."

"There are many over-70s who can't bear the thought of having to stay in lockdown a moment longer and have accepted it because everyone else has got to do it.

Quarantine by choice is freedom. Quarantine by mandate is oppression!

And then we have the docile sheep, who think wearing the Muslim-esque face mask is just another fashion accessory.

I’m with them! Every so often I hear suggestions of locking up over 70s here, and believe me, I have no intention of going quietly.

Oddly enough, in the US I have noticed that the people most terrified of the virus are the young, even though older people stand to be more seriously affected by it (as with everything, btw - this is nothing new). It’s the young who are wearing charcoal filtered breathing masks and will run into the street rather than walk by somebody coming in the opposite direction. Very strange.

Yep. You never hear someone call a young person “cantankerous”. I’m one of those old people. We tend to know we are getting close to “game over”.

This life is a tiny portion of the life of the person. It’s like the womb, and death is the birth canal, and eternity is the life outside the womb. And it brings a reality that, for those within the womb, is unimaginable.

Of course, for those that don’t believe, well, this is all there is, and they tend to act like it.

This is happening already. Older people know this “crisis” is 90% baloney.

The last few days the Geriatric Rebellion has been evident everywhere.

The faith over fear mask is comical. A faithful person is not afraid and, therefore, does not wear a mask. There are a lot of things frightened people do in public to show their fear. Wearing a mask is one of them. Of course, sometimes it just means they are really, REALLY gullible.

I laughed at the occasional person (always asian) I saw in public wearing a mask. Maybe one or two a year. But now, whenever I go out, it’s everywhere.

As I told my facebook friends a couple of weeks ago, if we are ever required to wear masks in my state, well, I’ll probably do some jail time. And yeah. I’m old...

But I thought the Democrats were going to stake ‘em out and, well, you know...let nature take its course, kinda like when a child survives an abortion attempt.

My friend’s dad lives in a retirement home. He’s in his nineties and tested positive for CV19 but has yet to show any symptoms whatsoever. He is royally PISSED that they won’t let him do anything. If it were me, I’d “go for a walk” to my kids’ house.

This article could just as well have been wirren about older Americans.

It is a disgusting display of the pro-death ethic lack of optimal care given the elderly in the entire West.

From the beginning of this epidemic, the entire class of vulnerables should have been given the care they need.

Masks, in house ppe equipment, dispersement to the extent possible and asap and when known immediately available plaquenil etc. as well as sterouds etc. Also, training for caretakers in handwashing .

What should not have happened is confinement in nursing homes with minimum wage, often staffed primarily with poor and foreign caretakers who are also exploited.

So, people who wear masks are fools that are like sheep, or worse, like Muslims. Tell that to your dentist, just before he has to inject your mouth with Novocaine.

You quarantine SICK people.

Quarantining "well" people is a denial of all their normal freedoms.

Health and Safety of whom? And a damn governor says when I can go to the hairdresser or bowling?

And is so many are and have been carriers now have immunity...shows this spacing and mask crap doesn't work. The masks are indeed for those treating the sick but they are assuming that everyone is sick.

Starting Monday, no mask, no Costco. Does one, out of childish rebellion, throw a hissy fit and cut up our card?

"And then we have the docile sheep, who think wearing the Muslim-esque face mask is just another fashion accessory."

So if you have it and don't know it because you're asymptomatic, what's important isn't the risk that you pass it on to a dozen other people, the risk is that you'll be a docile sheep for giving a shit that others may not want to catch what you have.

Gotcha

I'm 76. I go out every sunny day and play in our community garden. Peas, onions and spinach are up. Planting lettuce today.

Get out in the sunshine...it will kill the virus almost instantly...and forget the sunscreen. Just stay out for a bit and not for hours.

Every park and path should be open for folks.

You actually believe that one equates to the other?

That a medical doctor working on a patient voluntarily is akin to the tyrannical state mandating mask wearing, even while you are driving solo in your own automobile?

"All drivers and operators of any public transportation must wear a face covering while driving or operating the vehicle, regardless of whether they are transporting passengers"

https://www.coloradopolitics.com/denver/face-mask-wearing-in-denver-will-be-required-enforced-as-of-may-6/article_0dd968ee-8bfe-11ea-9ef2-8fa602740954.html

The globalists and tyrants have been running an experiment: "How far can we push them? Will they comply with any ridiculous order?"

It turns out, they can push us far, and the majority of people act like slaves.

COVID is NOT the Black Plague or even the Spanish Flu. Not even close.

We are trading in our humanity and our freedoms for a false promise of "security."

‘Of course, for those that don’t believe, well, this is all there is’

I am one of such, though I dare not tell my family, and short as the duration may be in your view, I feel it has been, and continues to be full and satisfying...

‘and they tend to act like it.’

your little barbs don’t retard my enjoyment of the only life I believe I will ever experience...

We are in our 70s. We played the isolationists for 2 months. May 1 was my granddaughter’s 7th birthday. We had the party at our house. My son and daughter and their families attended. We will still do the social distancing and facemasks in public but we will embrace friends and family for as long as we can.

Last week, I went to one of our local Italian restaurants to pick up some pizza. The owner is named Tony, and his family has operated this place for years. Tony's father (the previous owner who started the business) still helps on busy nights. I walked in (yes, wearing a mask) and Tony saw me from behind his own mask, and his eyes smiled and he called me by name. He knows most of his customers. He is kind, and loved in the community.

A man was in the front the of line, picking up a ton of food. He was having a long conversation with the cashier, making sure he got everything, and asking for extra this and extra that.

Finally, he picked up his order, and started moving to the left. The woman behind him (also masked and in her late 60's/early 70's) approached the cashier for her turn in line. Suddenly, the man stopped, turned around, and went back to the cashier. He saw the woman who was in line behind him, and screamed at her:

"Hey! Six Feet!
Six!
FEET!

The entire restaurant heard and saw it. Tony's face fell into his chin.

Eight weeks ago, this jerk of a man should have been tossed out on his ear. Today, he is allowed to berate an old woman for not following the Government's "policy."

This insane mask dementia is destroying our society and our humanity, one day at a time.

We are not human beings. Nope. As your picture paints, we are all disease carrying threats. Bugs to be squashed. Potential murderers because we breath the air that God provides.
