Lawmakers were seen wearing bulletproof vests as armed protesters stormed Michigan's Capitol in Lansing just moments before the state's House of Representatives denied Gov Gretchen Whitmer's request to extend her state of emergency.
Photos from inside the Michigan House Chamber showed elected officials wearing bulletproof vests while men holding guns stood above them.
'Directly above me, men with rifles yelling at us. Some of my colleagues who own bullet proof vests are wearing them. I have never appreciated our Sergeants-at-Arms more than today,' Sen Dayna Polehanki tweeted Thursday afternoon.
In Michigan, guns are permitted inside the state's Capitol as long as they are visible and carried with lawful intent.
Protesters, who weren't wearing masks, were seen yelling within inches of officers from the Michigan State Police.
Others were heard chanting: 'Let us in! Let us in!' ...

What a stinkin’ thing to do!
I have a photo of Grandpa with his 1917 Enfield..
Thank you for your service and your in-depth studies. Semper Fi!
When there is no threat present, it looks and smells like intimidation. When we are represented by overweight, bearded, and camouflaged pretenders how are we different from any other group of poseurs, like ANTIFA?
The issue is whether the governor or the statehouse can dictate whether we should stay isolated during the plague, not whether we should be armed or not. If anything, this is the stage where we should be engaged in sober, thoughtful discussion, not acting like screaming, dangerous rabble.
And in answer to one of you - no, no veteran worth the name would show in costume, brandishing AR-15s. The only time we would have our rifles with us would be to actually fight.
They should fear that, else you live in fear, Neville.
Looking at the photos. Very reflective of America.
Such sweet guys. Would really be relaxed having them babysit my pre-teenage daughter alone.
Doh! Damn phone keypads.
Great idea.
:)
Apparently, youre a slow learner: I have served my country well, faithfully and for a large part of my life - including very nearly losing it.
Who the hell are you to call me Neville? You ever serve in combat?
I sincerely doubt that. Damn computer screen commando.
Good. We need this in EVERY state capitol. At the very least, it will make for some amusing TV when we get to watch liberal talking heads piss their pants about “militias” and an armed domestic insurgency.
The governors response: stay in your cells another month!
Is Trump aware of what is going on here?
This isn’t about Ivanka and Jared.
/scarcasm
You couldn't be more wrong. This is exactly what is needed to show that the 2nd Amendement means what it says. If the tyrants in our government persist, there should be consequences. This shows We The People mean business. Stop the political BS and give people their god given freedoms back.
“...When we really do storm the Capitol it wont look like this honey....”
This was the POLITE way of saying “Not happy. Nope. Not happy at all.”
Theres two nations in the country the other side already thinks your side looks bad.
Only the shameless run for office
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire. These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.

“...Who knew our state governors were King George III in waiting?...”
Anyone watching and observing over the last few decades, for sure.
Those Governors saw their chance to use their political position to derail the economy “for the Party” and remove Trump, and they coordinated and jumped on it.
As for the police - the Citizens weren’t breaking ANY laws, they were acting within the confines of the law, which allows guns in the statehouse. The police - “law enforcement”, apparently know the law (they should, or they shouldn’t be allowed to wear a badge and a gun).
This took balls - and it sent a NUMBER of messages to people who needed to get them.
We can agree or disagree on it - but it happened either way, and those magnificent Citizens expressed their Constitutional Rights - to Assemble, to petition for redress of grievances, and to keep and BEAR Arms.
What could be MORE American?
Apparently you mean to include the God-given right to spread a plague while showing that we conservatives are brainless, dangerous thugs in the process.
That the governor overstepped her authority is without question - but using Antifa-like tactics is both stupid and dangerous.
That photo of that hairy idiot yelling at the police was classic - and shameful.
You have to remember, this is the Brits reporting. They have a much different attitude about guns and patriots and...Americans.
It sent a message.
