New York (CNN Business)Tyson Foods (TSN) is warning that "millions of pounds of meat" will disappear from the supply chain as the coronavirus pandemic pushes food processing plants to close, leading to product shortages in grocery stores across the country. "The food supply chain is breaking," wrote board chairman John Tyson in a full-page advertisement published Sunday in The New York Times, Washington Post and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
US farmers don't have anywhere to sell their livestock, he said, adding that "millions of animals chickens, pigs and cattle will be depopulated because of the closure of our processing facilities." "There will be limited supply of our products available in grocery stores until we are able to reopen our facilities that are currently closed," Tyson wrote.

How is the fact that hundreds of workers in ‘essential’ industries like food processing getting sick a Trump specific problem.
Our plant closure was handled by the county health official. A trump supporter btw.
When a business has hundreds of employees sick with this they WILL get shut down until the plant is cleaned and enough of them are well enough to work again.
This is happening everywhere.
Most of the tested positives in my county are because of that processing plant.
What do you think would be happening if it were a plant making ventilators?
I don’t think I have bought anything from Tysons in a long long time.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Please note that I said you were either ignorant or a troll.
Trumps get emotionally angry at most press conferences talking about how bad the oil situation is.
So you are not a troll. But you are ignorant. And spreading lies.
Chicken = Emu
see down under sales
That was just one meat processing plant in South Dakota wasn’t it?
Well, aren’t you spacial
The same thing.
The same exact thing.
When HUNDREDS of your employees are sick at home, in the hospital or DEAD, who will make your ventilators?
The county health official WILL shut your ass down.
It’s actually one of their LEGAL job responsibilities.
This sh*t comes from a company that sends AMERICAN chicken and pork to China to be processed by COMMUNISTS,brought back to America to be processed by ILLEGALS and sold at American markets to be eaten at the American dinner table.
China knowingly sent infected people to “inspect” China owned meat plants here in America. Bio-terrorism? Absolutely
And I’m saying that the Federal Government will never allow an overarching national defense issue to be determined by a local official at the county level.
My grandfather was one of those so I know a bit about what I’m saying.
Maybe maybe not but if there was ever a job to walk out on this is it! Maybe Dems are helping by giving unemployment to those who would not otherwise qualify. Facts remain this is large scale mass production and any number of things could make the spread worse in hell on earth.
No, there are over 30 plants closed down right now because many workers are out (tested positive) with this.
I can post links, ready for spam? (but not fresh spam, that’s probably not coming off the line right now)
And not just in THIS country, Brazil has them down for the same reason.
The plant near me WAS open and doing business, until the virus got in there. Now that’s closed too. There are a LOT of chicken houses in my county, not sure what they’ll do now. Those are on a ‘schedule’.
Corona clearly doesn’t treat all ages equally, by going one size fits all and not focusing on the vulnerable...we may end up with more corona deaths by the time it is over. Then throw in the economic impact, what a mess.
TYSON is tied to CHINA. Its high time to support local farmers and butchers.
And China, of course, is the source of the problem. They’ve been playing the long game for decades, and it’s beginning to pay off. There are small poultry farms all over the country, but, at least in our area, a whole processed chicken from one is $5 a pound. Now, maybe some of you pay that already, but I never pay more than 90¢ a pound for a chicken. Doesn’t have the quality of the local chicken, but I sacrifice that to save money. And besides, is that local price going to stay the same, when Tyson chicken is $5 a pound? Time to stock up a little. Old China has been laughing in their sleeve for a long time, and it almost serves us right.
It is deliberate. I always thought it was the Muslims who controlled the production of meat. Seems I read long ago that they took over that business in Europe. But the Chinese as a nation are into everything.
This will bring us all down to new levels of living and providing.
Ha, Tyson might lose it’s grip on the market is more like it
The American people might want to help him out. They havent done anything for him so far. They say they support him. And yet he was impeached. Howd he get impeached? A RAT majority House of Representatives.
Food processing facilities are full of foreigners. Do Americans do anything about it? Theyre still buying from Tyson and Smithfield. As long as they have food on the table and dont have to slaughter cows and hogs and chickens themselves, they dont care. They want to complain about foreign workers, but they want them working as long as they dont have to see them or be inconvenienced by them not working.
President Trump has been under constant attack. Who has his back?
The county health official is like your county sheriff.
During any sort of health issue they ARE the top dog.
in fact, the sheriff reports TO the county health official in such circumstances.
When over half your workforce is out sick with a virus, who exactly will be processing the meat? Do you think you’ll convince lots of *other* people to come work there and get infected too? Good luck with that!
Legally, Trump can’t direct them to do a damned thing. He knows this, it’s why he hasn’t said anything about this.
Well said - thank you.
