WASHINGTON (AP) Despite pockets of attention-grabbing protests, a new survey finds Americans remain overwhelmingly in favor of stay-at-home orders and other efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus. A majority say it wont be safe to lift such restrictions anytime soon, even as a handful of governors announce plans to ease within days the public health efforts that have upended daily life and roiled the global economy.
The survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that more than a month after schoolyards fell silent, restaurant tables and bar stools emptied, and waves from a safe distance replaced hugs and handshakes, the country largely believes restrictions on social interaction to curb the spread of the virus are appropriate.
Only 12% of Americans say the measures where they live go too far. About twice as many people, 26%, believe the limits dont go far enough. The majority of Americans - 61% - feel the steps taken by government officials to prevent infections of COVID-19 in their area are about right.
Just 36% of Republicans now say they strongly favor requiring Americans to stay home during the outbreak, compared with 51% who said so in late March. While majorities of Democrats and Republicans think current restrictions where they live are about right, Republicans are roughly four times as likely as Democrats to think restrictions in place go too far 22% to 5%.
More Democrats than Republicans, meanwhile, think restrictions dont go far enough, 33% to 19%.

Or that unemployment checks are going down drastically.
Well said.
Of course. Who wouldn't?
‘it doesnt matter if you virus-free if you cant feed your family’
this poll will make a number on this very forum beam with joy...
‘Here in Georgia, I keep hearing that the governor is trying to kill people by telling them they can get haircuts.’
some clown went on FB and posted on his blog that Georgia was opening up death...and I was shocked by the affirmative commentary he got...
Not necessarily.
There are plenty of male Karens to be found on Facebook.
Theres a particular one thats so obsessive, that Im almost convinced that hes a paid Chinese troll bot.
Naturally, hes a Demonrat.
Did you happen to see that on Facebook?
One of the most obnoxious male Fearbros on an Alabama based Facebook news page has been posting that same tripe.
“Even most FREEPERS were willing to surrender their liberty in the face of this idiocy.”
These idiots scream louder and longer than everyone, so they naturally get the most attention. This place is infested with Soros trolls and egomaniacal old farts who get monthly annuity or government checks, so as long as they have theirs, they don’t give a crap about anyone.

And there's the rub. By giving everyone state weekly unemployment compensation + the federal $600 per week, there won't be any incentive for millions of workers to go back to work. I'm as conservative as they come, and I'm no fan of government, but the weekly maximum weekly benefit in NJ is $681 (which I would qualify for if laid off) plus $600 from the feds is $1,281 per week (about 1/2 normal earnings)
I live at the shore and my mortgage is paid off. Bills are less than $1,000 per month for taxes, insurances, and all utilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, Direct TV and internet). Its awfully tempting to volunteer to be laid off and enjoy the upcoming great weather months at the Jersey shore. However, I've never collected, and don't want the government handout. I'd rather work and pull my own weight.
Check back around 1 mounth when the summer starts in the northeast states.
‘it doesnt matter if you virus-free if you cant feed your family’
that doesn’t seem to be registering with the easily frightened bunch of wimps that populate this country...I have zero hope for these people, or for the future...
‘Why in the world is the administration not trying to educate people on this?’
ask Mike Pence...
The 2nd Amendment is florshing.
‘Women are driving the panic and the sense that we must err on the side of lockdown.’
they are rabid on social media sites; just breathe the slightest hint about reopening the economy, and they start right in with the snarky shit, and it goes down from there...
Exactly. Tell those against reopening theres no money left in the coffers for unemployment and the companies allowing them to work from home are cutting their salaries in half and see if they dont join the reopen crowd.
Go Gordon I think that is a truly patriotic stance.
I also could go on unemployment. I choose not to.
I dont fault folks for legitimately taking their unemployment insurance they paid into and have a claim for.
Stay at home? Get a government check? Democrats are living the dream. Of course they don’t want it to end.
