How many Americans want to go without income for 6 months?

And there's the rub. By giving everyone state weekly unemployment compensation + the federal $600 per week, there won't be any incentive for millions of workers to go back to work. I'm as conservative as they come, and I'm no fan of government, but the weekly maximum weekly benefit in NJ is $681 (which I would qualify for if laid off) plus $600 from the feds is $1,281 per week (about 1/2 normal earnings)

I live at the shore and my mortgage is paid off. Bills are less than $1,000 per month for taxes, insurances, and all utilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, Direct TV and internet). Its awfully tempting to volunteer to be laid off and enjoy the upcoming great weather months at the Jersey shore. However, I've never collected, and don't want the government handout. I'd rather work and pull my own weight.

Go Gordon I think that is a truly patriotic stance.

I also could go on unemployment. I choose not to.

I don’t fault folks for legitimately taking their unemployment insurance they paid into and have a claim for.
