WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite pockets of attention-grabbing protests, a new survey finds Americans remain overwhelmingly in favor of stay-at-home orders and other efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus. A majority say it won’t be safe to lift such restrictions anytime soon, even as a handful of governors announce plans to ease within days the public health efforts that have upended daily life and roiled the global economy.
The survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that more than a month after schoolyards fell silent, restaurant tables and bar stools emptied, and waves from a safe distance replaced hugs and handshakes, the country largely believes restrictions on social interaction to curb the spread of the virus are appropriate.
Only 12% of Americans say the measures where they live go too far. About twice as many people, 26%, believe the limits don’t go far enough. The majority of Americans - 61% - feel the steps taken by government officials to prevent infections of COVID-19 in their area are about right.
Just 36% of Republicans now say they strongly favor requiring Americans to stay home during the outbreak, compared with 51% who said so in late March. While majorities of Democrats and Republicans think current restrictions where they live are about right, Republicans are roughly four times as likely as Democrats to think restrictions in place go too far — 22% to 5%.
More Democrats than Republicans, meanwhile, think restrictions don’t go far enough, 33% to 19%.

The media is tapping into female fears. Women are driving the panic and the sense that we must err on the side of lockdown. It feeds into their protective, risk-averse nature. They aren’t being convinced that economic ruin is far worse long-term for their children — a message that doesn’t resonate with a group which is more geared toward current, not future, perceived risks.

Exactly. I have definitely noticed that most of the fear mongering is coming from women.
With the working from home situation, I have found myself checking in on FB much more than before. Easily 90% of the “stay home, this is real” type of posts are females. To be fair though, most of the really funny posts and videos are from women.

When you send People a $1,200 Check and give them an extra $600 a week IN ADDITION to any Unemployment Insurance they receive, they might think that things are “just right”.
No. The fact that they have to cook up polls to shape opinion is proof that they are getting desperate. Whatever the left pushes, you can bet that in a hot second that a poll showing support for it will be forthcoming.
This is a case in point.
Also, it is so easy to be in favor of this when it hasn’t affected you. As this drags, let’s see what happens when all those living off, say, the state government payroll are cut off.

At age 77, overweight and with type II diabetes, I think I’m qualified to speak out on this. People, like me, who are at risk from this virus obviously need to take more precautions to avoid infection than younger, healthier people, just as motorcycle riders need to take more precautions when riding than car drivers need to. However, that doesn’t give me and others like me the right to deny other people the right to earn their livelihoods and to destroy their pension plans for no real gain to ourselves. It also doesn’t give us the right to destroy the economy of the greatest nation in the world’s history. Right now the “cure” is doing a lot more damage than the disease, SO IT’S HIGH TIME TO OPEN UPO THE ECONOMY AND GET ON WITH BUSINESS.

If old people like myself, or those with major health problems choose to isolate themselves longer, that’s ok. But anyone young, healthy and able to work who chooses to stay at home instead of going back to work shouldn’t get any more money from the state or the feds. Unfortunately, I think there is a segment of our society that would rather not work as long as the government is willing to pay them not to work.
