Back in 1981 I worked as a carpenter's assistant (relatively unskilled) making $8.00/hour.

In 2020 dollars, that's about $23-$24/hour.

I saw an ad in Houston for essentially the same work a couple of years ago. Pay rate: $8/hour.

So in real terms the same job pays 1/3 as much as it used to. Why? Juan. Jose, Pablo.

The “Americans are bums” squad never bother to answer those questions.

“So?”

What?

Without you providing any context as to exactly what post you’re talking about I cannot answer your question.

So?

Translation: Do they expect me to cry about us not importing more people when we have so many natives who are without jobs?

The question is rhetorical.

So indeed.

they can’t find workers that are drug free, will actually show up for work reliably and will actually work once they are hired for the wages being offered.

Completed it. Employers with this problem need a refresher course on supply and demand.

You are not providing jobs for the unemployable. What you propose is just moving jobs from one employer to another.

In your trade union like quest to raise wages, you fail to consider that by raising wages, the company may price it’s products beyond purchasability.

You assume, with no evidence provided, that all those not currently working are "unemployable."

My quest is to end market-distorting foreign labor. A company that can't compete in the market without foreign-labor welfare should go out of business; then the resources it's been consuming - including labor - can be used by more efficient enterprises.
