A large magmatic eruption is taking place at the volcano right now. Based on satellite imagery, VAAC Darwin spotted a high-level ash and SO2 plume reaching 47,000 ft (15 km) altitude moving WNW.
A strong thermal hot spot is detected as well. Both the webcam on Anak Krakatau Island and from the coast (in 40 km distance) show strong lava fountaining from the volcano.
This seems to be the strongest eruptive phase since the violent phreatomagmatic activity following the partial collapse of the volcano on 22 Dec 2018, which had triggered a deadly tsunami that killed hundreds of people on Java's west coast.
Lets see, pestilence check, earthquakes check, rumors of war check, volcanos.....check!

All it needs is a vortex/wind shear pattern funnel cloud and we are off to the races .
Actually, the ash from a huge volcano (or numerous ones) will block out the sunlight and make it cooler. When Krakatoa went off in the late 1800’s it caused “the year without summer” in Europe.
A link came up in my web browser about a week ago about Krakatoa.
It has photos from an old book which I have (a reproduction) somewhere around the house. Huge book with water color paintings, all sorts of science stuff, ships diaries, personal accounts - a whole interesting mix of accounts from eruption.
It includes tidal measurements from the Thames(?) that shows the disturbance from the eruption! As well as other tidal measurements from around the world.

Evacuation was prohibited due to the possibility of spreading coronavirus. Krakatoans and East Javans are told to remain indoors, wash their hands, cough into their elbows and avoid large gatherings. Since evacuation would cause large gatherings, they are prohibited and anyone caught evacuating would be subject to penalties including being shot on sight and fines of 100 dollars.
