Planned Parenthood acting president Alexis McGill Johnson slammed the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals as “heartless” Tuesday for allowing Texas to temporarily halt elective abortions.
The ruling overturned a judge’s temporary restraining order authorizing Texas abortion clinics to keep killing unborn babies instead of obeying a state-wide halt on non-essential medical procedures. Gov. Greg Abbott’s order helps support hospitals that need additional medical gear and supplies to treat patients with the coronavirus.
Johnson claimed elective abortions, which kill unborn babies, are “essential health care,” and Republican politicians are targeting abortion facilities during the global health crisis.
“How heartless do you have to be to, in a time of crisis, take extraordinary measures to take away people’s health care?” said Johnson, who runs the billion-dollar abortion chain.
“While people everywhere are trying to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, politicians like Gov. Abbott continue this perverse obsession with banning abortion. Those who are caring for their families, forced to work essential jobs, and doing what they can to stay healthy need access to health care right now. Instead, these politicians are forcing patients to travel hundreds of miles putting themselves and their families at risk,” she continued.
She accused the governor of focusing on ending abortions rather than the pandemic.
“No other form of health care is being targeted this way—only abortion,” Johnson claimed.
But nothing could be further from the truth. The pro-life governor has been working to protect Texans from the virus through his order and other measures. Rather than showing favoritism to the abortion industry, as some Democrat governors have, Abbott included all non-essential medical procedures in his order.
Abortion activists are the ones demanding a special exception and putting lives at risk. They are elevating the killing of unborn babies above cancer treatments, cardiac surgeries, knee and hip replacements, infertility treatments and more. These are important health care procedures; they help save lives and relieve pain, but they are being delayed so that hospitals have more beds, equipment and staff to treat people suffering from the virus.
In contrast, abortions are elective, and they destroy lives. Recently, medical groups representing more than 30,000 doctors in America emphasized that abortions are not “essential” or “urgent,” and abortion facilities that continue to operate during the pandemic are being “medically irresponsible.” According to one study, approximately 93 percent of abortions are done for “social reasons,” not because of rape, incest or risks to the mother’s health. And it is not true that abortions are safer than childbirth.
And while concerns about a shortage of medical supplies are growing, a Planned Parenthood affiliate in Pennsylvania had the audacity to ask for donations of personal protective equipment for elective abortions.

States Attempting to Protect Babies From Abortion
Texas: Abortion centers are temporarily closed after Governor Greg Abbott’s order. But Texas abortion businesses have sued the state to reopen. Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit as well to do abortions and ignore the order. A federal judge blocked the order and allowed abortion centers to keep killing babies but a federal appeals court reinstated the order.
Maryland: Abortion centers are included in the abortion order to stop non-essential procedures but they have been caught violating the order.
Louisiana: Abortion centers are included in the order to close and all three closed initially but at least one abortion center has been caught doing abortions.
Ohio: Abortion centers are included in the order to close but they are refusing to close. The health department is now investigating those violations. Meanwhile, a judge has blocked the state’s order banning abortions.
Mississippi: Abortion centers are included in the order and the state’s sole abortion business has closed.

they justify their philosophy based on the notion that the unborn child, which they steadfastly call a ‘fetus’, has at most a very diminished value as a life form until such a time as person hood is achieved, which is the arbitrary point of being able to draw breath on its own...when I ask them if they believe that parents scrimp and save attending to the child’s nurture and education because those parents think their children have ‘diminished value’, they answer with a shrug...
