Louisiana Governor on Not Shutting Down Mardi Gras Over Coronavirus Concerns: No One From Federal Government Told Us to Cancel Anything
News Weak ^ | 03/29/2020 | Benjamin Fearnow

Posted on 03/30/2020 9:41:56 AM PDT by BenLurkin

The Democrat doubled down on remarks he made last week defending his decision -- or lack thereof -- not to cancel February 25 Mardi Gras events. He conceded that the raucous partying scene "likely" contributed to the spread of the virus in the New Orleans area, where health experts now say the next coronavirus "hot spot" is emerging. Just one day prior to the city's Mardi Gras festivities, the president said "the coronavirus is very much under control" before going on to tout the day's stock market gains.

Speaking on several Sunday morning TV news programs, Bel Edwards tried to re-focus the conversation on the state's need for respirators and federal government supplies rather than rehashing the past. He warned Louisiana's largest city will run out of ventilators by April 4 and hospital beds by April 10.

But Bel Edwards did confirm Sunday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- and all other federal government agencies -- made no mention of scaling back Mardi Gras celebrations over coronavirus concerns.

Look at that Feb. 25 date for Marti Gras!

Speaking of feds not telling Louisiana state government leaders to cancel Mardi Gras events, where was Nancy Pelosi the day before?

Pelosi was evidently in “orange man bad” polarity response mode in San Francisco’s China Town encouraging people to visit and not worry about Coronavirus!

Corrections, insights welcome.

Send “orange man bad" Democrats and RINOs home in November!

MAGA, also KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)

Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping COVID-19 will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.

“The President does not have the power to cancel Mardi Gras or issue Stay at Home Orders for Louisiana.

The Governor does.”

Not my question. Did Trump know in January this would be a devastating pandemic, and if so why did he do nothing?

Is it the Federal Government's responsibility to monitor all celebrations in all states and local areas to state what should be cancelled and what should go on?

That would be the responsibility of a state.

Just like Blanco (RIH), he’s getting his marching orders from the DNC.

Hmm, perhaps the gem & mineral show simply draws a different crowd, which in this case was less likely to show up pre-infected. There’s no telling how deep the social and cultural undercurrent of this mess might run.

The thing is that even if you cancel the parades in all of the communities by each city revoking parade permits, Mardi Gras is a major holiday and the partying would have taken place anyway. This is like trying to cancel Christmas. It isn’t possible.

If YOU Governor and if YOU Mayor are not competent enough to manage your state without the Federal government then RESIGN.

Zactly!

I had to cancel a meeting that is held every month for about 40 people, out of concern for the Virus and to shut down the tension.

6 days later we were told by the state of California to “Shelter in Place”

To quote the Notorious AOC, it was all about the Benjamins (Mardi Gras, or Carnival Season, is a HUGE economic boost for the local economy; no way in hell would the Louisiana PTB cancel Mardi Gras).

Pathetic.

Yet, if Pres Trump issued an Exec Order shutting down Mardi Gras, ASSuming he had the authority to do so, they’d be calling him a racist fascist dictator faster than Kyle Busch on steroids.
