We’ve been had and Trump knows it

While President Trump closed the US border against entry from China at the end of January, his overall instinct was right. The CCP virus was nasty, but no worse than a supercharged flu.

Health professionals overwhelmed Trump and his inner circle with doomsday scenarios, bullied by panic obsessed virologists and epidemiologists -- begging for attention and copying the alarmist playbook from the climate/global warming extremists, allied with the MSM Trump-haters.

And now the government has completely suffocated economic demand, creating a depression, an unnecessary calamity that is destroying lives, livelihoods, families, and fortunes for a generation. It is becoming apparent that the end-of-the-world predictions, computer models warning of an apocalyptic black plague worldwide, are all wrong.

Those paying attention were warned that the worse-case scenarios were hysterical, by the likes of Stanford epidemiologist John P.A. Ioannidis.

In dramatic fashion UK Imperial College scientist Neil Ferguson published a doomsday scenario on March 16. Now just ten days later, he has reversed his outlook, essentially settling on a prediction no worse than a bad flu season.

Most telling, the two US public health icons, Drs Fauci and Birx, are both saying the extreme models that provoked extreme measures, bear little resemblance to the actual data on the ground. From the New England Journal of Medicine March 26 co-authored by Fauci :

Trump’s remark about Massie was a totally unforced blunder. It accomplished absolutely nothing at the end of the day.

I work professionally with model-based forecasts in my line of work (nothing to do with health care). Anyone in my industry who came out with a “second model” after the first one was invalidated would have been laughed out of business.

The whole purpose of modeling is to develop multiple scenarios BEFORE you make any predictions. Models are invariably wrong by their nature — simply because the variables are usually unlimited, and no modeler can foresee all of the factors affecting an outcome. A successful modeler knows how to capture variables to get a reasonable baseline estimate, and then run the model multiple times using valid scenarios.

This guy Ferguson sounds like he produced a Michael Mann “hockey stick,” and everyone just took it at face value.

Go back and look at Trump’s track record on this one. His first instincts were correct — when he was telling people to calm down and just prepare for something that might be comparable to a bad flu season.

Public panic — driven by media hysterics and pathetic personal ignorance — changed the narrative on this completely.

Funny how a bit of perceived personal risk changes the folks from FReedom loving Constitutionalists to those begging for slavery...if we had the same mix during the Revolution, WWI or WWII, our nation wouldn't exist.

That's it in a nutshell. The number of my acquaintances who have come out demanding that the government protect them from people who dare to leave their houses is shocking, frankly.

If you’ve read my thousands of posts over he years you might detect a pattern ... where I often use silly hyperbole to make a point. LOL.

We have had conversations before and I have enjoyed them. Sometimes we agree, sometimes not.
Silly is different than gross. There are many ways to make a point. Choosing is an art.

Don’t hold your breath. The economy will be back within a year. Socialism will have taken a big hit. Countries with socialized medicine are having an eye opener and we have a front row seat. POTUS is more popular than ever.

“creating a depression”

I am thinking a recession at worst. If there are no other surprises.
A portion of the money will go back into the economy.
The 4 Trillion in Fed loans? is not OPM and some of it will actually be paid back.
I still believe that less than a 1/2 Trillion would have got the job done.
Like i said, several times on other similar threads, the massive spending bill was based on a worst case scenario which this has not turned out to be.
And if it took a turn for the worse they could have went back and past another 500+ Billion stimulus.
But our politicians, who really don’t have a clue how much things cost in the real world, and probably don’t really care, like to spend spend spend...and the dems like to fund their pet projects in the middle of a supposed disaster bill?

Yes but you don’t base decisions on data you don’t have.

To be honest, I thought I was being mild.

"Sh!t sandwich" is a term I've frequently heard among blue-collar friends of mine. It refers to anything unpleasant forced upon someone against their will -- but that they're willing to accept with a smile if they think there's no alternative. LOL.
