> Not fixed. The pandemonium this will create for small business is immeasurable.
The theory expressed by (R) senators is that it’s not perfect but that it is expected that most people would prefer real work over quitting for a relatively short term modest pay raise.
one thing i would like to know is what will happen to the trump hotel chain business. marriott business is reportedly down 75% or maybe even 90%, i forget which.
i imagine trump hotel business would be affected the same if not worse since the trump brand is high end so people in a mood to save money can always choose a cheaper hotel. that means that the entire trump organization is left to hang, and they are already burning precious capital if they have not already started laying off much of their work force. if i were in charge of the trump properties, i would file an immediate lawsuit once the bill is signed. the covid-19 emergency is not trump’s employees fault no more than it is the fault of any other USA hotel employee who is expected to get a break from this bill.
I loaded it up under three different PCs/laptops with three different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera), and the text you listed isn’t there.
Bill passes, Dow/S&P/NASDAQ future drop.
All good.
No Dem ‘no’ votes, so Nancy probably has agreed to get it passed on Thursday.
If she delays it or tries to modify it, the fall-out will be massive.
Steve,
I don’t believe all 100 million pay federal income tax. Many on the lower end, with a few children or more pay no federal tax. So I bet the cost to actual tax payers would be much higher.
What if the public health emergency is lifted by POTUS weeks or months before the election? Then this should no longer apply.
I think so.
If this is THE bill, the site has search capability. I entered “vote”, “ballot” and “absentee” and got nada.

Dear Lord, I hope they removed ALL the election stuff.

fwiw, the senator who spoke after mcconnell indicated that many senators felt that there were certain aspects of the bill that demanded revisiting at some time in the near future to correct some problems with it. whether or not this will actually happen might be problematic to determine with certainty.
Just reading various tweets about it...
Howard University gets $13,000,000
$75M for NPR PBS
In CA that has already been in effect for several years. The GOP was asleep at the wheel, but they can still catch up.
The House has a choice. It can approve the Senate bill by acclamation or elect to call back all of its members to draft their own bill and then pass it. The House and Senate bills would then have to be reconciled thru a joint committee of both bodies and be put to a vote again. This could take weeks.
Odds are the House will approve thru voice vote.
Kill it. or let Trump kill it. Its bullshit. Stop it now, go back to work and quit pussing out. We took Guadalcanal, the Marshalls, the Philippines and IWO JIMA. Screw this shit. The US better grow a set of nuts.
Excerpt with link -
On Wednesday evening, the Senate passed an updated version of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The bill builds upon earlier versions of the CARES Act and is intended to be a third round of federal government support in the wake of the coronavirus public health crisis and associated economic fallout, succeeding the $8.3 billion in public health support passed two weeks ago and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. It is the product of negotiations between Democrats and Republicans for a bipartisan response to the crisis.
Was this in her bill or the senate bill tonight. I saw people quoting this section earlier in the day, before the senate bill was even brought to the floor
If it’s in this bill, this is the key part “may not put any limit on how many voted and sealed absentee ballots any designated person can return to the post office, a
ballot drop off location, tribally designated
building, or election office.”
That opens the door to someone creating a 100 ballots if they want and dropping them into the system . Bye bye GOP
Disappointing for sure. But $75M is chump change compared to the size of this monster.
