Three Republican senators are warning that they will oppose the $2 trillion coronavirus response package unless a massive drafting error in the legislation, that they say will create an incentive for employers to lay off employees, is fixed.
Fox News is told the concern is that the current version could pay workers more in unemployment benefits than they're currently making, by sticking a $600 per week payment on top of ordinary benefits that are calculated as a percentage of income. This could disrupt the labor market further, the lawmakers warn.
"A massive drafting error in the current version of the coronavirus relief legislation could have devastating consequences: Unless this bill is fixed, there is a strong incentive for employees to be laid off instead of going to work. This isnt an abstract, philosophical point -- its an immediate, real-world problem, Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C., Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said in a statement.

He said that they are working on an amendment to fix the problem that would mean that the maximum unemployment benefit is 100 percent of someones salary,...

The 600 dollar error is the 15 dollar per hour dream wage the Dem’s all salivate over.
Thank you, Senator Scott, for catching that.
Not a drafting error. It was intentional by a Rat is my assumption.
He’s right. Current maximum unemployment benefit in Tennessee is $275 a week. $875 a week is more than most make in their jobs.
Someone finally waking up that paying people more to NOT work is both stupid and dangerous.
It’s not a glitch, it’s a feature!.....................
That’s not an error, it’s a feature.
Guarantee you that isn’t an error.
Yes, except we should pay Congress not to work................
“error”?
What about all the ballot harvesting BS that was in it? Has that been removed?
It was no error. Bank it.
I believe unemployment insurance covers one half of a persons wage up to a certain maximum. The object was to get people to look for work. I wish they would disconnect the bill from unemployment insurance or it will never go away. One Democrat wet dream realized.
this unemployment payment is for 4 months only...both sides have completely embarrassed themselves with this thing...
The leftist DIM “plan” from the house was 1200+ pages. The repub senate plan is 500+ pages. I can’t believe either were written in the last few days. While the senate plan seems “better”...apparently, it is still a Screw-The-Taxpayers-and-Laugh-At-Them type of legislation. No bill should be more than a few pages. Pathetic.
Bingo.
Bump!
“The 600 dollar error is the 15 dollar per hour dream wage the Dems all salivate over.”
.......
Exactly. Funny how that works. ....also, why are folks getting $600/ week ON top of unemployment insurance? Asinine. This is so messed up.
