Life expectancy is longer in rich countries because people can afford better food and health care and can demand higher safety standards at work. Shutting down large segments of the economy, even those deeemed "non-essential", will cause deaths, and politicians should be aware of the tradeoffs.

“Except abortions. We MUST continue to perform abortions in crowded abortion clinics using scarce healthcare PPE and wipes and instruments.”

I think it totally depends on the crisis.

While I am concerned, this is NOT the Black Plague.

Get some Black Plague, and I’ll totally agree we need to shut it down.

If Gov Cuomo really wants to save lives why doesn’t he lower the speed limit on the freeways to 10 mph?

When city, county and state budgets collapse and police, EMT and firemen are laid off...

How many deaths from that?

New York City has a population density problem when it comes to Covid 19 and that is why they have more than 50% of the national cases in the NYC metro area. The solution is not to quarantine them but to alleviate the population density by shipping them to China, not Florida, where they may also be more politically compatible too.

“save lives, period, no matter what it costs”

Sounds suspiciously like “we have to destroy the village in order to save it”.

New York’s governor explains, is to “save lives, period, whatever it costs.”

This is where we are. The rats will be increasing the slamming of Trump for “putting money ahead of the Lives of Americans”. The rats want a total collapse of the economy because they think it will bring Trump down. That fact that millions will suffer is irrelevant. When they say any means necessary they mean it.

Sounds like the much-touted Cuomo is just about 3 weeks behind Trump.

There are about 5000 critical cases in the USA. So why does Cumo needs 30,000 ventilators for NY alone?

PAST TIME for these Democrat scum to STOP lying

Cuomo will pay a large political price for his nonsensical meanderings.... This is a pandemic unlike any other pandemic. The reason why... Social media.

There have only been 19,000+ deaths over 4 months worldwide. There are 7.8 billion people on earth and every day 360,000 more people are born to this earth. Meanwhile the corona death toll goes up by minuscule increments.

So the question is... Just how much of this hype is real, and just how much of this hype is hype?

It’s hype folks... Worldwide more people die every day from brain aneurysms than die from corona. Are we shutting down the economy because of the brain aneurysm crises? Like global warming, this ‘crises’ is complete foolishness and it’s being hyped up by scientist and the true damage from this crises will be from the economic downfall of our society, not from the deaths.

Of course, the point is to hijack the crisis to advance collectivism. If they can also use the economic side effects to defeat Trump, they would consider that a nice side benefit. “Saving lives” is clearly not the priority.

If he really wanted to “save lives, whatever the cost”, he would oppose abortion on demand. As it is, this is political posturing bullcrap.

The goal, he explained, is to "save lives, period, whatever it costs."

Spoken like a TRUE POLITICIAN ( blowing to the galleries )

Too long a wait to fire up the economy and they will probably create a Pyrrhic Victory economy-wise.

Kind of a Heads YOU LOSE.. Tails YOU LOSE!

A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has also taken a heavy toll that negates any true sense of achievement or damages long-term progress

Trump has already stated, "we should be very careful that the CURE is NOT worse than the disease."
