Why this Nobel laureate predicts a quicker coronavirus recovery: 'We're going to be fine'
LA Times/Yahoo ^ | March 22 2020 | Joe Mozingo

Michael Levitt, a Nobel laureate and Stanford biophysicist, began analyzing the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide in January and correctly calculated that China would get through the worst of its coronavirus outbreak long before many health experts had predicted.

Now he foresees a similar outcome in the United States and the rest of the world.

While many epidemiologists are warning of months, or even years, of massive social disruption and millions of deaths, Levitt says the data simply don't support such a dire scenario — especially in areas where reasonable social distancing measures are in place.

"What we need is to control the panic," he said. In the grand scheme, "we're going to be fine."

Here's what Levitt noticed in China: On Jan. 31, the country had 46 new deaths due to the novel coronavirus, compared with 42 new deaths the day before.

Although the number of daily deaths had increased, the rate of that increase had begun to ease off. Essentially, although the car was still speeding up, it was not accelerating as rapidly as before.

“This suggests that the rate of increase in number of the deaths will slow down even more over the next week,” Levitt wrote in a report he sent to friends Feb. 1 that was widely shared on Chinese social media. And soon, he predicted, the number of deaths would be decreasing every day.

The Chinese are just coding covid-19 deaths differently:

Worldometer showed 8 or 9 European countries experience a fewer number of new cases than yesterday. And Germany, Austria, France had their second day. If it continues, pray to God, this would be significant.

Levitt is either a fool or a Chinese agent. China lies. They lie all the time. Do you get that, Professor Levitt?

If China says that 1+1=3, it doesn’t mean that arithmetic has suddenly changed. It means that China is lying again.

Praying that he is right.

Seconded.

Thank God for Trump and other leaders who have a sane and measured approach to this crisis.

MUST CONTROL THE PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;D [Little irony and sarcasm there.]

Many of the younger folks of this generation should really learn to receive full information about the problem and deal with it more calmly. Otherwise, you risk going really batty, if it gets much worse.

Oh, and there's plenty of toilet paper and food. The reason for needing to stock up a couple of months ago was to avoid going into the germ stores as often now. Too late for stocking up now.

Yesterday was a bad day, fueled mainly by New York’s numbers, but the two days prior did show a pronounced reduction in the number of deaths.

Hoping yesterday was the blip and that his theory is correct!

They are talking about an inflection point in the growth curve.

The point at which it goes from growing at a faster and faster rate, to still growing, but by a slower and slower rate over time. That slowing of the rate of growth, eventually brings it to no growth at all (the peak point on the curve), from where it starts slowing down.

Things could change (like the weather, or lifting restrictions/opening schools), and the curve could change direction again, but the inflection in the rate of growth (the growth rate decelerating, instead of continuing to accelerate) shows that whatever measures are in place are starting to work.

Clearly this guy will not be on any MSM stations soon, they are doing everything they can to panic people, even downplaying the news of vaccines and cures that are emerging. “Well it could be a year or more before vaccine is available.”

Here’s what’s coming, as things calm a little expect the MSM to start talking about the virus mutating and now being much worse than before.

In other words if we continue doing what we're doing things should be fine. The disruption which people are complaining about is necessary because it works.

“Stanford professor sucks Panda seed, right from the dispenser. What else is new?”

Say what? This is the most sane thing I have heard uttered by a professor in years.

Yeah, the same can be said of that report, take it with a grain of salt. It wouldn’t surprise me if it is correct, but we have no evidence either way, because China is not forthcoming. Speculation is just, worthless. Same goes for this article. Speculation based upon figures supplied by a regime that we know is not above lying, and in fact engages in hiding, everything including the truth. We know that to be a proven fact. But as with all liars, when they do tell the truth no one knows whether to believe then or surmise that they are just telling more lies.
