Why there will soon be tons of toilet paper, and what food may be scarce, according to supply chain experts

Stuck rationing toilet paper because you didn't stockpile during the coronavirus panic over the last few days? Don't worry, according to supply chain experts.

"All the grocery stores are going to have pallets of toilet paper sitting in the aisles and nobody is going to buy it because who needs to buy toilet paper when you got a year's worth sitting in your garage," Daniel Stanton, a supply chain expert and author of "Supply Chain Management for Dummies," tells CNBC Make It. But what about food? Even if the COVID-19 pandemic stretches over months (President Donald Trump said it could last until August), there will no big food shortages, especially on staples like milk, eggs, cheese, bread and meat, according to three supply chain experts who spoke to Make It.

Your post #6 cracked me up!

“And every loaf of bread is gone. Suddenly, no one has any “gluten allergies”.”

~*~*~~
The store isles even have left over ‘gluten free’ items and things like ‘veggie noddles’.

Yummy white bread, real noodles, flour, sugar...gone!

Really shows how ridiculous everyone was being prior to this.
And now.

It is nice to get info from someone who works in it. About a week or so ago, when I was looking it up on 'the net', I found it reported 90 percent of American toilet paper was made with American paper and goods. Very sad to hear that is not true. But certainly not the first time I got bad info researching around on the net.

Some say that diarrhea is a precursor to coronavirus in about half the cases.

Do you remember the Lee Marvin song from Paint Your Wagon?

God made the mountains,
God made the sky,
God made the people,
God knows why!

He fixed up the planet
the best that he could.
Then in come the people,
and gummed it up good!

These days, I catch myself singing it more often.

“I don’t understand why toilet paper is being hoarded. Chicomvirus isn’t a gastrointestinal disease like Asiatic cholera. It’s a respiratory ailment.”

Actually, it presents with diarrhea in half the cases.

But the idea is to not have to go anywhere for months if you don’t need to.

The long-term demand for TP has not changed.

Just 10 days ago I bought everything I wanted. No shortages..

Fun to read the different stuff people here are saying they have or don’t have.

Away from home bath tissue like in hotels, businesses, public buildings, is all cheaper with recycle content and cheaper softwood. Any premium bath tissue like Charmin, Quilted Northern, Cottonelle, White Cloud, or the private label store brands are all made with Eucalyptus pulp from Brazil. Hardwoods = soft bright toilet paper. Softwood = stronger binding fibers because they are longer but makes a less soft sheet. Some companies use a cheaper softwood blend for the base ply sheet and then a mostly eucalyptus hardwood sheet for the top ply sheet.

Yeah, don't buy the one that has the slivers in it.

I froze some surplus eggs and defrosted/scrambled them a few months later.

Still edible, but the texture wasn’t quite right.
