I was a Korean Linguist in the Air Force. Our instructor, a Korean-born American Citizen told us one day how we got the word Gook for Korean.
The Korean word for America is Mi Gook (pronounced megook). You know the tire brand? Hankook? It's a variation on HanGook, which is the Korean word for Korea. Some genius just thought the Kook would sell better than Gook.
Anyway, when the first American troops were arriving to help the south in the Korean War, a bunch of Koreans would meet the planes yelling "Megook! Megook!" (Americans!, Americans!). So, the GIs being GIs basically said, Okay, you're gooks.

He didn’t “brush it aside”. He asked who it was who said it and the reporter had no idea.

FWIW...Please be advised that I’m totally and completely heterosexual, but with all this winning I fear I may begin to develop a serious man-crush on DJP. LOL!
There may be some confusion over the fact that one reporter asked if calling it “the Chinese virus” was racist and then later another question was about an unnamed staffer allegedly using “Kung Flu”. It was the second-to-last question in the news conference and as I said, President Trump directly asked the female reporter to repeat the phase, which she clearly did not wish to do, and then basically said he was OK with it. He did not back down an inch.
But by all means do your own research. You’ll be grinning at his answer like I was.
