Trump calls coronavirus the 'Chinese Virus' as he vows to protect American businesses including airlines from the economic fallout from the crisis

Donald Trump has controversially labeled the coronavirus the 'Chinese Virus' in a tweet in which he promised to protect American industry from the economic crisis caused by the pathogen.

Instead of calling the deadly disease which has killed 6,500 worldwide by its designated name COVID-19, the president risked accusations of playing to his base by appearing to lay the blame for the virus at Beijing's door.

Despite the fact that the virus is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China, the World Health Organization does not attach geographic names to diseases or 'terms that incite undue fear'.

“ 1. By all indicators, this virus originated in CHINA ”

Not sure why you are telling me that - I approve of the President calling it the Chinese virus.

My “barf” comment was directed at the author of the article, who apparently disapproves.

No matter how Trump attempts to ease the crunch on people it wil never be enough...we are an ungrateful and demanding nation. And even in spite of this God still shows us mercy....we surely don’t deserve it.

Trump know you gotta push back on the propaganda and lies, otherwise it will be come ‘truth’.

I suspect that EO for clawing back the medical supply chain from China is close to ready.

Chinese Virus!

While looking at numbers from the JHU data set, I may have stumbled onto another metric which seems to give a fair indication of how well countries are doing in fighting the Corona virus outbreak by comparing new deaths to total deaths and deriving a ratio. Of all the data columns possible to use, and I've experimented with several (e.g., total cases, new cases, total deaths, recovered, etc.), these seem to give the least unexplained variation between countries, and seems to reflect what we're seeing on the ground in each country. I've included China, but I personally don't put a lot of trust in the validity of their numbers. South Korea, by far, seems to have had the most success. And compared with the EU, the US isn't doing too bad either - though we have a long way to go to get to where South Korea is (no new deaths). One big supersize is Iraq, but I'm not sure how valid their reporting is.

I did not include countries with less than 10 fatalities, and the data is a couple of days old:

Same thing, he’s trying to minimize economic damage, which at this point is going to be bad.

For clarity and justice. American and British Chinese are nothing like PRC Chinese. They shouldn’t be maligned by the bad faith actions of the PRC Chinese.

Baloney! You can assume virtually every Chinese here is an agent for the home country, China. They have stolen billions of dollars of our technology, they report back intelligence to China, etc. Their feet might be in the U.S. but their loyalty is to China.

For reference: 3/4 of a Million public are employed by the airlines.

You might want to keep in mind the public people working for a living, who are going to be taking a big hit.
