SAN FRANCISCO - Google sister company Verily launched a website late on Sunday that invites adults in northern California to answer questions about their recent health and travel that could result in their getting a free coronavirus test.
U.S. President Donald Trump had thanked Google on Friday for developing a website that he said would help people determine whether they needed a coronavirus test.
Verily, a health care technology company owned by Alphabet Inc, said it worked with some employees at fellow Alphabet unit Google, to develop the new website, here
The website states Verily is working with the California governors office to direct high-risk individuals to newly-launched testing centers in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, sometimes by calling those users directly to set testing appointments.
People showing symptoms of the flu-like virus are meant to seek medical care, rather than a test through Verilys system, the company said.
Verily did not respond to request for comment on user activity on the website in its first few hours.

One aspect of all of this that is going totally unremarked is we are foolishly (IMHO) throwing decades of principles and rationale for medical testing to the winds. 40 years ago Screening normal people for disease ushered in a new era that brought with it poorly or completely unanticipated effects that we are still dealing with after decades. AFAIK mass medical testing of large masses of humanity for the indication of I want a test has never been done and if past performance is a predictor I would guess we will be dealing with the fallout from this for decades.
Why does the left complain about this website so much? Its the top questions they ask about during the news conference?
We all completely understand that much of Google actually DOES WANT us dead.
The Obamacare website worked perfectly the moment it was unveiled. /s
Well, I’m no epidemiologist (nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), but for assessing the spread of a novel virus into a population, widespread testing might not be a bad idea...?
And we’re talking quick test, not serology?
It-they ripped a line right out of a Bernie Sanders campaign speech.
As another poster notes, “Touted” was chosen deliberately as a way of casting a snide look of scorn on Trump.
EVERYTHING this man does is criticized! They will not give him credit for anything!
That’s a given.
I could make analogies to some modern day German companies...but I won’t.
Takes time how to data mine all of the people's information without their consent.
Ya gotta love our President!
Our nation is blessed to have him.
Good catch and soooo true!
The only tests I have heard of is samples have to be sent in. Perhaps someone is trying to develop a rapid test, standard to reason. How quickly can such a test be standardized, manufactured, and distributed? Im guessing three weeks is impossible. We will know what the death rate is in three weeks.
I was going to point out that your opinion is worthless b Ed cause you begin by telling us that you have no bonifides to support your expertise.
Then I saw it was you.
