Thanks Hojczyk. Any information on race?

It looks like the average age of the victims is 77 years old except for the outlier 40 year old m6with underlying health conditions

Tucker had someone on and her MODEL said there were 100,000 cases in Ohio..

Ohio has zero deaths so far..

So if the MODEL is right am I missing something

My math skills may not be as good but..that is not a high death rate..

Those ages/conditions describe a lot of the regulars here on FR.

Thanks for posting. Either this means that quarantining the vulnerable is sufficient or that the most vulnerable got it first. The next few weeks should tell the tale.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

I think death rate matters less than the number who need/will need ventilators and ICU beds.

The capacity of the health-care system is the main thing that is dictating the effort to slow down the spread.

Sadly; this disease appears to target old people the most.

If someone were to design a disease that gets rid of old people and those with other medical conditions to lighten the load on SS and Medicare; this would be tailor made. :(

I’d love to know what the underlying health conditions are. Is asthma one of them?

“Underlying health conditions” is such a useless euphemism.

ALL diseases target the older, less healthy populations first. Been that way since the dawn of life on earth.

So does this confirm the Italian mode of rarioning - focusing on treating those under 80 without complicating factors?

Probably.

Hubby has asthma so we’re concerned.

Not that he’ll die but that we might ‘win’ a million dollar ICU bill.

It’s not unusual for folks this age to just up and die. Thats scary, since i’m close to that age...

Except the diseases we survived over our lifetimes to reach the stage of being old and unhealthy....

If they gave same care to elderly they give the younger, they would get better too at a higher rate.

An 89 year old man at Kirkland got virus, but his 2 sons went there immediately and in front of press spoke to dad on cells through windows. He has recovered.

Bet they did not ignore the old man like they usually do with that kind of publicity.

It’s ludicrous. When she said that Ohio has — not will have, has — 100,000 cases when there were in fact five, yes five, known cases it was nuts and she is a state health official.

I found she based this absurd claim on a highly out of contex quote she read once from WHO that said something like if you see two cases of a disease there are probably forty thousand you don’t know about.

Her statement was not based on any epidemiological study or analysis.

One obvious thing to keep in mind on the age thing. The figure come almost exclusively from a strike on a nursing home. The denizens are almost certainly going to be on the high side of 60 (with a few exceptions).
It’s not surprising so many victims were old as seniors the pretty much all that was served up at the virus’ “smorgasbord”.
Although, in the Wash facilities it also takes down a number of younger people who were employees leaving them in various conditions, it didn’t kill as many.
If this thing starts hitting hospitals it will affect a larger cross-section of ages.
