'Two-person race': South Carolina poll shows Biden leading Bernie Sanders by wide margin

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders lead the latest South Carolina poll of Democratic voters, garnering double-digit support that far outpaces the rest of the pack.

Support appears to have collapsed for climate activist and billionaire Tom Steyer, who had been polling in the low double digits after saturating the Palmetto State with campaign advertising. Steyer now polls at just 7%.

The numbers were released by Public Policy Polling and show Biden with a robust lead over Sanders with 36% to 21%.

“PPP’s newest poll of Democratic primary voters in South Carolina finds it looking like a two-person race, with only Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders reaching double digits in their support,” Public Policy Polling Director Tom Jensen said.

The poll is good news for Biden, who had declared South Carolina's Feb. 29 primary a “firewall” for his campaign and will follow his second-place but distant finish behind Sanders in the Feb. 22 Nevada caucuses.

“The key to Biden’s success continues to be strong support from African Americans. He gets 50% to 21% for Sanders, with no one else polling above 6%,“ Jensen said.

The poll shows the remaining Democrats on the ballot in South Carolina trailing far behind Biden and Sanders.

The survey found Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 8% support, Pete Buttigieg with 7%, Tulsi Gabbard with 6%, and Amy Klobuchar with just 3%.

Sanders leads Biden with voters under 45, but Biden enjoys a 32-point lead among seniors with 40% to 8%.

The poll found Klobuchar with just 1% of the all-important African American vote.

“Plenty could happen to change things in the next five days, but, for now, it looks like Biden’s position might be shoring up a little bit in South Carolina,” Jensen said.

Is Bloomberg skipping SC as well? Not mentioned in the poll.

Sounds good. If bernbag is 50 delegates short and bite-me biden is right behind him, the DNC should award the nomination to the hair sniffer, with the super delegates, on the 2nd ballot. That’s entertainment!

That's two polls with Biden ahead IN SC.
However, Sanders is far ahead in California and Texas which have the two biggest numbers of delegates.

Sanders will probably win SC and Butticheck will be at the tail end.

Steyer’s collapse seems unlikely, but the poll “holds together” in internal consistency on the questions and shows what demographic they sampled which seems reasonable—so it might be accurate. I couldn’t find any obvious poll bias.

Guess we will find out soon enough...

If true the zombie Biden will have a decent Super Tuesday in the south—which would give him enough delegates to muddle through in second or third place to the convention.

Bloomberg’s high negatives were also interesting (even though he is not on the ballot, but was on the questionnaire)—looks like the debate took its toll.

Warren looks like she will finish fourth again—just enough to barely keep her alive.

Buttigieg will have trouble in the south, but will be more competitive in the north.

So, this race should go all the way to the convention, with Bernie winning a plurality.

I see no benefit to any of the other candidates dropping out (except _maybe_ Klobuchar and Steyer).

Agree. They’re rigging it to steal the nomination from Bernie....again. Hopefully, he’ll go 3rd party and take all his BOTs with him.

Yup—I predict Bernie 40% of the delegates with 15% each for the other four remaining candidates.

Ballot 2—Bloomberg bribed super delegates nominate him

Then they kiss the Democratic Party goodbye....

Hopefully a lefty third party....

And we need to lift several of them up a bit and push Bloomberg to the back of the clown car. Preferably into the trunk.

Biden’s at a fund raiser in West Carolina.

He’s convinced they use sea shells for currency.
