"Doctor Who" just made history with its first ever black Doctor, who was revealed during Sunday night's episode "Fugitive of the Judoon."
Jo Martin, playing the first black incarnation of the Doctor, was shockingly revealed to the 13th Doctor, portrayed by Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker was the first female incarnation of the character.
In the episode, written by Vinay Patel and Chris Chibnall, Martin's character, a tour guide in the English city Gloucester named Ruth Clayton, surprisingly announces that she is the Doctor.
The historic revelation came after a TARDIS was dug up from under Clayton's lighthouse childhood home. But neither one of the Doctors recognized each other.
"You're in my future, not the other way around," Martin's Doctor says.
"I've never been anything like you ...Trust me, I'd remember, especially that shirt," the 13th Doctor says. Though the show has had a host of strong female characters along with Whittaker -- from Michelle Gomez's The Master and Alex Kingston's River Song to companions like Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rose (Billie Piper) -- no black woman has ever portrayed the title character.

yay.
Dr Who is so PC, I wonder if they ever have room in the scripts for time travel any more?!
Well now it’s Dr. Why?
As in why watch it?
First tranny doctor
First drag queen doctor
First openly gay AND lesbian doctor at the same time
First disabled doctor, can ride around in a dalek shell
First white hating muslim doctor
Woke is broke baby.
Looking forward to not seeing that next James Bond film (cast as a female).
Ill sure love not seeing Natalie Portman cast as Thor.
Oh and what fun it will be skipping the next Iron Woman movie with Ms. Vagina Scented candle taking the mantle of Tony Stark.
And damn, lets kick that next Captain Marvel flick off so I can do something besides going to see it.
Dr Whatsitz
Doesn’t make any sense no matter what.
For starts, there is no Dr. Who.
If the fan base is OK with the blatant tokenism then who cares what they do with the Dr. Who franchise? They’re painting themselves into an intersectional corner, though. Woman, black woman, next I guess is trans woman of color but where do they go after that?
How is this news?
Not only that, now that they’ve given ownership of it to these groups, what happens when you yank it. Perhaps I’m jumping the gun. Maybe they never will return to the gender who made the brand successful.
“No other black woman has ever portrayed the Doctor.”
Well, seeing how black women are 1.5% of the UK pop, why is this noteworthy?
You forgot about Ms. Marvel. The first superhero that can fly into buildings faster than a speeding jetliner.
Siamese twins attached at the hip of which one is trans-black female while the other is straight-chinese-midget male?
Writer Chris Chibnall looks like a gay Newman (as in from Seinfeld).
I never got over david tennants departure
The Dr. Who is not human and can assume any gender or race. That part is fine,as long as there is strong writing for the series.
The problem is that liberals don’t care about strong writing as long as they can be preachy
Being preachy is what could kill Dr. Who.
Why couldn’t they come up with a new show that had a new story line featuring a black woman?
