Someone up-thread posted a link from an NBC news flyover showing the crowd size. 100k? I don’t know, I’m lousy at looking at pictures and guessing how many people.
It depends on how you do it. I help an older friend out in South Texas - whenever the population gets high enough, I go up on his barn roof on his ranch and shoot the hogs as they enter cleared lands (they’ve attacked his livestock and his grandchildren in the past) with a long-barrel FAL as the things often come in packs. If I have to come off the barn to chase down a wounded hog, I’m carrying a Saiga 12 featuring a 20 round drum loaded with alternating slugs and buck. And reloads.
At *no* time do I feel overarmed, and once I have felt like I should have possibly brought more gun. I do NOT like coming down off that barn and going into the bush. Close quarters with hogs is not a good idea. That said, what I’m doing is vermin/dangerous animal control, not sport hunting. However, it’s close enough that I can laugh at idiots who say that you don’t need “military grade” hardware for hunting from first hand experience.
Just FYI: it usually takes a couple years for them to come back after a shooting session in this particular area. We don’t eat them either.

Those responsible for security set up a “cage” around the Capitol since the Governor declared a temporary emergency to ban guns on the Capitol grounds. You can ‘carry’ (within the law) just off the grounds. Most people did not want to be “in the cage” - exits are limited and if something bad happens, you’re trapped - literally. Some have chosen to go into the cage, the majority are staying outside.
That reminds me, I need to get the oil changed on the big gas guzzling SUV and go to the gun store and buy more ammo today.
Time to get my day started.
