California tells ranch owners, 'Your land is our land'

The owners of the exotic 14,400-acre Hollister Ranch on the coast of California are suing the state for a host of alleged constitutional violations after lawmakers adopted a statute that gives the state free access to the land.

Explained PLF: "The law at issue, AB 1680, calls for an update to older state plans to create a public access way on private land on the 14,400-acre Hollister Ranch, which borders the Pacific coast. This general goal represents an outgrowth of 2018 legislation vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown, who recommended a sensible and fiscally responsible Ranch access update. Hollister Ranch did not oppose early versions of AB 1680 that sought to encourage an expanded public access plan and that set out reasonable deadlines for action."

However, lawmakers amended the bill with "unexpected provisions that represent an overreach of the state's authority."

Lawmakers added unexpected provisions? WHAT!? How Dare They. As long as you have to pay taxes on your property, it's never "your property".

'Your land is our land'

Is this what Woody Guthrie really meant to sing?

He was friend to a lot of Commies.

Well, it’s true in every state that has property taxes. Sure, mine are only a couple hundred a year, but technically that means I’m only “renting” from the state.

I refuse to pay thousands in rent. That’s why I moved from Seattle to rural KY. And in the process, in a lot of very good ways moved back in time 50 years. With all the conveniences of the 21st century. Yep. Amazon prime is johnny on the spot even here, and video streaming, good food (but a heck more natural) and the government leaves you the heck alone. :)

When I lived in Santa Barbara, California MANY years ago....decades, in fact....Hollister Ranch, located up the coast from Santa Barbara....was subdivided and sold off in 100 acre “lots.”

James Arness....Matt Dillon on “Gunsmoke”....bought one of these 100 acre parcels and built a home on his property.

Great views of the Pacific Ocean.

The left is communist with another name. The first tenet of communism is the elimination of private property. Here it is in action, one step at a time.
Do not doubt this!

I wonder if Reagan's Ranch up that way was part of it.

Uh, I don’t live there so you can go ahead and feel sorry after all. LOL! When you figure out how to overcome the population centers that are filled with gimme mores, let us know. I still think whoever has the most acreage voting for them wins. I.e. red map/blue map

Yes indeed big city taxes in Harris County (Houston area ) squeezed billions from property owners locally despite a new state law to stop rising property taxes. Marxists are in control. My husband got broad-sided near downtown Houston with a 48K tax bill after Hurricane Harvey on his commercial property. We are hanging on...we bought land in an obscure town in East Tx. They say there is a huge amount of Houstonians buying land in East Tx.
