Five tourists arrested for damaging Peru's iconic Machu Picchu site will be deported to Bolivia later on Wednesday, police said.
A sixth was released from custody and ordered to remain in Machu Picchu pending trial after paying bail of $910.
The six tourists -- four men and two women -- were arrested for damaging Peru's "cultural heritage" after being found in a restricted area of the Temple of the Sun on Sunday.
They were also suspected of defecating inside the 600-year-old temple, an important edifice in the Inca sanctuary.

I'm sure these tourists have made their home nations (Brazil, Argentina, and France) so proud.
Idiots. These people never think about anything beyond themselves.
I just can’t imagine that a Peruvian prison would be a place where I’d like to stay. I don’t think I’d even be a little tempted to mess with their stuff.
Nice, classy people.
Tie them down and cut the heart out, same as always.
” defecating inside the 600-year-old temple”
Why has defecating in public becoming so popular???
I don’t get this.
Hell, if they did this in San Francisco, they would have been given the key to the city.
What starts in San Francisco seems to become the nation-wide and world-wide norm 10-20 years later.
Sounds like the “homeless.”

The kid who damaged a wall and a floor might spend four years in a Peruvian prison. I wouldn’t call that a slap on the wrist. It might be a life sentence.

Give him four years, and his parents 10 years. Rough way to learn how to respect other people’s property, but so worth it.

Are they from San Francisco by chance?
No Americans. These people sound like a bunch of semi-hippie mostly Latin American flakes going on the spiritual woo woos tour of native sites. Theyre probably looking for the Pachamama.
Honestly, I would have supported a good long caning.
Then I’d have given them a straw and told them to clean it up or get more of the same.
That’s a valuable site to the world. Who the hell pulls that sort of routine?
I’m not Peruvian, but that angers me.
Thank you. I was waiting for this.
I agree, one has to wonder what people are thinking. Having one’s photograph taken while naked in front of well known sites is another stupid trend.
I don’t get the need for either one. Thanks.
