McConnell opens door for Hunter Biden testimony at Trump trial
The Hill ^ | 01 14 2020 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 01/14/2020 12:04:10 PM PST by yesthatjallen

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says Republicans could subpoena Hunter Biden to testify about his business dealings with a Ukrainian gas company if Democrats insist on having witnesses such as former National Security Adviser John Bolton testify at the Senate impeachment trial.

“We’ll be dealing with the witness issue at the appropriate time into the trial and I think it’s certainly appropriate to point out that both sides would want to call witnesses they wanted to hear from,” McConnell told reporters Tuesday when asked about GOP senators who want Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, to testify.

“When you get to that issue, I can’t imagine that only the witnesses that our Democratic colleagues would want to call would be called,” he said.

The GOP leader also noted “there is little or no sentiment in the Republican conference for a motion to dismiss” the articles of impeachment immediately, adding, “our members feel that we have an obligation to listen to the arguments.”

This is going to spin out of control just as the Rats and GOPe wanted. Of Course the GOP is not going to dismiss. The vote to condemn the House BS meant NOTHING.

The Deep State shall NEVER go on trial. This would imply they had some culpability, and people die before they would agree to reveal these perhaps earth-shattering realities.

If they are going down, they are taking EVERYBODY with them. Crash and burn is their exit strategy.

Trump has changed his mind at least once on this. It’s pretty clear McConnell wants dismissal without trial, but he doesn’t have the votes.

..Invite Lunden “Dallas” Roberts and a few Burisma execs as well

I thought that I had read, in this forum, that Burisma execs were invited to the House Impeachment Hearings, but were denied visas by the same diplomats that testified during the impeachment hearings.

Apparently McConnell doesn’t have the votes for an outright dismissal without trial because of certain RINOS.

Sadly, but true. However, throwing fresh meat that Hunter could be called may just chill some democrats - particulary that opens a lot of others to be brought forward for testimony that the left has desperately hid from view. turtle may be playing a version of "don't throw me into that briar patch" with Schumer, knowing full well schumer isn't dealing with a full deck.

Mitt and Nanzi have a son? Wonder what that musta been like... laying back, smoking a cigarette and stairing at the ceiling fan... a moment in time interrupted by that drunk giggling...

Could this be a threat to Nazi Pelosi to stay the HELL away from the Senate with those idiot articles?

I think so.

Trouble with this is.... I believe the Powers that Be have already concluded that Creepy Uncle Joe is already persona non grata.

“our members feel that we have an obligation to listen to the arguments.”

Republicans in the House felt the same way, but were blocked by the majority from making theirs.

McConnell should pressure his members play by Pelosi rules and quickly dismiss this.

As a last resort, he should oppose reopening the investigation in the Senate and stick to only listening to the arguments already gathered in the House.

Anything else, and he's being played for a fool. He'd go down in history forever as the majority leader who allowed the first conviction of a President, his own party's President, and the tool of the destruction of his party.

At first Trump was EAGER to have a Senate trial. Many Trump tweets indicated he WANTED a trial so his side could be told.

Now he doesn’t want one?

Really this whole Schiff Show is NOT about Trump. This is a classic power struggle between the Rats in the House and the Repubs in the Senate.

If this impeachment was really about the president - he’d be gone by now. Pence would be in the Oval Office.

Hunter Biden is living in his $2.5 million dollar house in Beverly Hills, CA. I don’t think you can find a house to buy in Beverly Hills for under $3 million. Judging by the picture of the house that Jesse Waters showed it would probably be worth more than $4 million

Sounds like a 1.5 million dollar in kind contribution for his influence on his dear old dad.

The Dem’s best strategy at this point is to not send the articles at all, and claim it was obvious that the senate wouldn’t give them a fair trial, and they can’t take their candidates off the campaign trail to play the GOP’s games.

Mitch needs to burn the house down. The Dems need to be taught a lesson.

Take the plow deep and expose all the corruption. Trump will never be convicted because it takes two thirds. Gag them on all of the dirt from Ukraine....the country needs to see it and hear it.

ONLY if the calculation is that the GOP won't play hardball and call the whistle blower, Schiff, Hunter Biden et al.

Hunter Biden???!!

How about Joe Biden? Hunter might have been the recipient of unearned $$$ but was a private citizen. His father, on the other hand, was Vice President and abused the power of his office.

I say call Joe Biden - he's no longer in office and doesn't have any excuse to defy a subpeona.
